Help with transformationFaction Choice

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:13 am

Sorry I wasn't quite sure how to name the title but I do need help. I'm creating YET ANOTHER character in anticipation for Dawnguard when I get it on PS3 and I was curious as to something for my development of my character. I wanted to know if it is possible for me to side with the Dawnguard AND get the Vampire Lord form? As a little bit of back story that you may or may not want to know here's the idea behind my character- if you don't care then just don't read next two small little miny paragraphs.

Uses heavy armor specifically Ebony (with the unique Ebony mail from Boethias calling quest) and uses the Executioners hood for a helm. Skilled in One/two handed, for weapons I choose the Headsmen's axe (enchanted Obviously) and the Ebony Blade. Also Skilled in Conjuration, Character is a Redguard sides with the stormcloak side in the Civil war, and Listener of the the dark brotherhood.

Maybe corny but the small little bit of RP life story is the classic -Parents killed by vampires, was turned into vampire against his will, now hunting down and killing all vampires.- Little bit of a weird Blade twist knock off I know but that's the explanation behind why I choose Redguard, became listener of the dark brotherhood but sided with the stormcloaks. Its like a weird vengeance sort of character, wants to hunt down and kill all vampires so needs the dark brotherhood, but is still a ok guy so helps out the stormcloaks in there endever.

LOL I'm sorry I got a bit off topic but I'm just trying to give sufficient back story for the reasoning behind why I would like the Vampire lord form but still want to side with the Dawnguard. So does anyone know? maybe its too much to ask but if you can answer the question without revealing too much spoiler I would appreciate it, if there's no way around it it's ok though. THANK YOU!

Hay just another question, I did a little bit of reading on some stuff, and came across something I wanted to ask. It says you have to side with Harkon to get the Vampire lord power, but this gentlemen told me I can stay sided with the dawnguard and still be a vampire lord. In addition to that I read that serana can be asked to make me a Vampire lord, so is what Mrbiggls saying in his post that I can still get serana to make me a vampire lord without leaving the dawnguard?

all I know is it wouldn't happen until after the dawnguard quests are done, and that the dawnguard will from then on reject you.

If join the Dawnguard you can become a vampire lord, but you don't get bonuses that you would by joining the vampires side. Here's some of the bonuses, Ring of the beast(increases claw damage), Ring of Erudite(increases magicka and magicka regeneration) and Amulet of the Gargoyle(increases summon time for gargoyles by 30 seconds).

Spoiler
You can actually become a vampire lord right before going into the soul cairn, but to continue the Dawnguard quest line you will have to cure yourself.

So there isn't any way for me to stay in the dawnguard faction and be a vampire lord at the same time?

The best thing to do if you want all the Dawnguard goodies(like the dwemer crossbow) and be a vampire lord is to complete all the Dawnguard quests and have Serena turn you into one when your done with everything.

Well its not so much about the goodies like the crossbow its more about the story behind my charecter, I want him to be a vampire lord, but be fighting to kill all the other vampires, and being on the side of the dawnguard. Follow up question, if I complete all the dawnguard quests and have serana turn me into a Vampire lord, will the Dawnguard faction hate me/kick me out?

Let's face it. Here are the facts.

If you're a mage, the most logical choice is Vampire. Why? Because with Respite, they are the only ones who can regenerate in sunlight. Also, Necromage+Vampire makes your enchantments *AND* potions 25% stronger, who doesn't want that?

If you're a warrior, Werewolf is the one for you. Why? Because they have a buttload of health usually and a mage with no health dies very easily in a direct fight.

If you're a stealthy assassin, you virtually do not need any assistance from a corruption such as Lycan/Vampire. You can do well enough on your own.

I would say Vampire would be most useful for an assassin though, only for the fact that you can turn invisible once a day and you can see in the dark allowing you to sneak better, but that is what Khajiit are for.

Your appearance. See, the Volkihar (according to lore) cannot hide their vampirism so the Dawnguard can easily see that you are a vampire.

My warrior kicks butt as a VL. I hardly ever use the VL's magical abilities. He is a melee VL only (other than when I was getting his perks).

I'll try to elaborate and try to remain as spoiler free as possible.

- Very early on in the quest chain you are offered the chance to become a Vampire Lord. This is the choice between Dawnguard and Volkihar. You're siding with the Dawnguard so you will turn this down.

- After turning it down and siding with the Dawnguard you will be offered a second chance to become a Vampire Lord midway through the quest chain. Opting for the Vampire Lord here will require you to be cured to continue with the main quest as the Dawnguard will not affiliate with you.

- Upon completing the quest chain you will be given the opportunity to be transformed into a Vampire Lord as often as you like (should you choose to cure yourself) regardless of your choices throughout the DLC. Should you be with the Dawnguard they will not talk to you as long as you are a Vampire Lord.

The bottom line is in order to progress through the Dawnguard side quest line you have to not be a Vampire Lord for the vast, vast majority of it and becoming one afterwards will change the way they interact with you.

Thank you!! That was perfect, the exact answer I was looking for!!!! Oh well, so Is it possible for me to be a regular Vamp on the dawnguard side at least?
