Helping beggars and others?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:39 am

So I want to give more to a beggar than a measly 1 coin, make a difference in their life. So I dropped a ruby in front of her, no reaction. Oh well, so I tried to pickpocket her and put the ruby on her, what a nice surprise when she fin it :). But that she took as a failed attempt to steal from her and attacked me with knife, the guards where all over me and I tried to explain I am the bloody Thane only trying to help out the poor woman!

Maybe I am playing wrong, but i want to be ably to help out others more. Would be nice if the game itself could provide visual hints of my good deeds. As it is now I just prevent the poor people spend all my alms on cheap Black Brian mead. Would also be nice to be able to buy some nice gifts/clothes for my wife. I managed to "pickpocket" some fine clothes on her, but she refuses to wear them :(.

Well, that is how I play, when bored of running errands and slaying foes.

^You have to pickpocket her default clothes OFF her for her to equip the clothes you pickpocket to give her

"One more coin, and i can buy a pair of shoes...." I gave them a lot and they didn't had shoes :P And in Skyrim it is not different, they will stay beggars. Maybe if the CK is out someone could add that they walk in a bar and by mead or something.

I do wish that you obtained an overall alignment based on what you do... (Old Republic has a pretty good alignment slider) and NPC's reacting to your alignment would be really awesome.

Which I think means that you must have the top-tier "Perfect Touch" perk in the Pickpocket tree (?) That makes the ability to give someone new clothes available only to certain players.

As a side note, I read about someone that pickpocketed an NPC to place a torch in their pocket. I tried it myself, and it does work. At night they will use the torch you give them. However, they don't know who it came from.

Stealing the clothes someone is wearing without them noticing is a super power  .

+1 for some kind of noticeable alignment for good/bad deeds, adds to the immersion.

Things don't make any sense to beggers in skyrim. I could remember paying close to 200 gold each for pickpocking (or lockpicking) training from this one begger, and she still begs today as if she doesn't have money. She has enough money to rent a bed from an INN for months, that includes buying new clothing and food.

I think it's quite believable that a beggar squanders her money. Maybe she has a nasty drinking habit.
