Helping prisoners escape

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 5:17 am

Whenever you see a prisoner being escorted by Thalmor agents or Imperial soldiers out in the world, do you free them? And do you give them stuff when you help them escape?

I did and now have had 6 contracts carried out, 4 by Thalmor agents and and 2 by DB assassins. But I gotta say, it was well worth the effort to free them, it gives you a feeling of heroism and patriotism if you do (from a Nord point of view).

Y`know, it never dawned on me that freeing prisoners was linked to contracts against me. I always wondered who sent these assassins.

Cool.

I'm just assuming so, because DB assassins come after me despite me having never wronged any NPCs (excluding imperial soldiers and Thalmor agents), so I assume it must be because I "interfered" in Thalmor and Imperial affairs by freeing the prisoners in the first place.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. The only person who could possibly have reported my butchery of that Thalmor patrol was the prisoner I released. He got an ebony shield, and freedom from torture and death. I got a Reach bounty. Thanks a lot.

After a while I quit releasing them, I just kill the guards.

The theory holds, I am quite a bit into my new char and not seen a DB assassin yet, but I also haven't freed any prisoners yet.

Might try freeing one, then seeing if DB get involved.

I only free the Thalmor prisoners, and AFTER taunting the guards so they start attacking me. Result: no bounty added.

You shouldn't get a bounty if you let them attack you first. This is what I did with all the prisoners I help escape. First, I selected the option to free the prisoners which caused the Thalmor agents and Imperial soldiers to become hostile, then I killed them (after they hit me first of course). End result = no bounty.

Or maybe you were doing it too close to a hold, IDK. All of my escapades were carried out in the middle of nowhere.

How do you taunt them?
Never knew you could. :o

You just talk to the prisoner, and an option pops up that allows you to free the prisoner. Selecting it will cause the soldiers or agents (Thalmor Justiciars) to become hostile and attack you, which is essentially "taunting" them.

Ahh okay, I see :P
I knew that, thought there was a way to actually taunt them.

You know the taunts enemies do, like when they tap their sword against their shield, well, I would love it if I could do that to try and encourage a turtling (constantly blocking) NPC to attack and let down his guard. ^^

Absolutely, out of principle. I cannot bare to see another being in shackles, unacceptable! I've taken apart a few Imperial / Stormcloaks camps too, sneaking in Invisibly, casting Frenzy on them all and watch as they cut each other to ribbons!

I always free prisoners captured by Imperials and Thalmor. Unfortunately, they usually die in the resulting fight. Those who live will run off before I have a chance to give them anything, besides freedom.

I'm such a wimp. I don't want the bounty. Whenever Imperials lead a Stormcloak past my character's soul weeps and hurries past them.

Does sharing supplies actually do anything? I tried it the one time I helped someone and he didn't really seem to use anything.

EDIT: Oh, the Thalmor. I annoyed them until they attacked me so once I'd wiped them out their prisoner was able to make a break for it.

As a Dunmer I brawled with him, hoping to teach him a lesson. He still goes on about "the grayskins."

I've only come across a few of these patrols. The last time I did, I gave the prisoner an Elven Dagger, but had no spare armor I was willing to part with. Maybe some armor would have spared him getting a sword through the back and out his chest. :ermm:

Same here. They never equip the things I give them. Instead they think they are Mohammad Ali and try to fist fight the Thalmor/Imperials.

You have to talk to the prisoner first, otherwise they seem to think you are hostile to them as well. When I free them before I attack, they usually stick around long enough to say a few things before running off. The ones that live that is...

The first few prisoners I freed died too. Eventually I devised a strategy that involved backing up a few feet or even running a short distance and then turning around. If done right the guards will focus on me and ignore the prisoner. The prisoners will usually be behind the guards, punching their backs. As a side benefit, this keeps the prisoners far enough away from me that I don't accidently kill them myself.

Yup. Resurrect them if they die, too. Knowing the Thalmor, the prisoners were probably innocent.
Though I feel suspicious about being reported and having hired Thalmor chase after me a few days later...

I used to free him. Until I found out if you do the most practical thing and take them out with a surprise attack he grasses you up and you get a bounty. If he's that ungrateful, I say let them do what they like with him. These days if I'm feeling generous I tend to cast fury on him because I know what a snitch he is and at least that way he goes down fighting. Fury seems to work wonders against having your hands tied for some reason.

I do free them, ESPECIALLY if they are escorted by Thalmors. If I come across a Thalmor party without a prisoner, I usually confess that I worship Talos, which will enrage them and they turn hostile. hahahahaha

I freed a prisoner, armed him to the teeth as well...But then the imbecile started attacking the Thalmore, without equipping himself, needless to say he was promptly decimated...Won't do that again, until I, or someone else mods out that behavior...

Someone should do a mod where after you free the prisoner, you are then tasked into escorting them to the nearest town...Would do wonders for immersion! BTW, I have been hunted by the DB as well, My guess is that the events are triggered by the fact that you've become the dragon born...I never found out who carried out the contract though..
