Hey Bethesda, howabout if an enemy has an arrow sticking out

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 12:23 pm

Its a game. And for what its worth, they do a great of combining traditional RPG hitpoint elements with realism. Still, Monty Python RPG? That's the last thing I consider Skyrim, but it was still brilliant. I LOLd

To Bethesda's credit, I've yet to see a single bug yet. But I'm only level 7.

I have a similar experience, and I'm level 22.

Intense frame rate drop in specific instances, and it froze once on my roomate. That's pretty much it.

you are wrong good sir. in oblivion headshot did matter big time! one of the very few things i miss in skyrim: localized damage. why the hell they didn't implement it is beyond me. skyrim is a great game and i think there is no need for any mods. except localized damage hehe. i always aim for the head even though i know it won't do more.
Out of curiosity, where are you getting this information? Have you actually played Oblivion?

headshot would be very frustrating if it would instant kill like when i am get executed by an orc warrior when i was at 50% HP and using heavy armor... chopped my head off

Haha well i always aim for torso any way its a bigger target. ( not a natural at aiming ) with most perks good bow and good arrows you can one shot a lot of things or at least kill in under 5. Well its at least better than oblvion where you shoot them dead in the head and it shows the arrow sticking right out of the chest.

Sorry but i disagree with the people saying a head shot should be a kill shot. This is not an fps nor is it meant to be realistic. Its pure fantasy and the Elder Scrolls has always been this way. It is not something that needs fixing. It is all about stats and level of enemies etc(Balance). This in my opinion is one of the best things about The Elder Scrolls series. Making a head shot a 1 shot kill would destroy the balance of the game and pretty much make every one play archer or carry a bow. I just can't see it working or fitting in this type of game.

I think they learned plenty. Anyone in this thread that has sold millions of dollars in gaming software, from many award winning franchises, raise your hand.

Sneak based players would be screwed if the AI never stopped looking for you after you shoot them. Although I feel that you should automatically get detected once you get a hit in though.

I have just one question:

Will a dragon killstreak be available?

Went up against some bow wielding bandits today, fighting with a sword. Went in for the kill, got a finishing move animation...and noticed an arrow sticking out of my eye.
The eye I made blind in character creation actually, so I guess my character didn't lose too much functionality.

The combat and AI in this game is halfway idiotic sometimes, and I think that I may as well be playing a Monty Python RPG. Look, if I shoot something in the head and it's got an arrow sticking out of it, it should be dead. Also, if I shoot from stealth, and there's an arrow sticking out of the enemy's throat, I should not hear it say "Huh, guess it was nothing..." or whatever it is they say when they are alarmed but can't find you.

So many sloppy things in this game that really detract from the fun and immersion.

You know what's really funny, I recently finished playing Deus Ex for the PC (great game, check it out) and went the hardcoe stealth route playing on hardest difficulty.

Obviously, I went the stealth route in this game as well, only using the bow (and eventually daggers, but that is for later) and it surprises me how prehistoric enemy AI is in this game. Like, I snipe a dude dead, then I shoot his friend, who is standing RIGHT NEXT TO HIS DEAD FRIEND and says, "It must be my imagination." Sometimes I want to drag and hide the body, but realize that it isn't necessary in Skyrim.

That sort of thing flew with the original "Thief" game for the PC. Back then, that was considered sooo realistic. Fast forward to today, though, and it seems little effort was made regarding enemy AI.

I get it, you can't ask for everything, and honestly, I'm having so much fun with this game and the visuals, quests, etc. Just yesterday I played for a full 12 hours, something I haven't done in a long time. It just surprises me that not much has changed since Oblivion when it comes to combat and enemy intelligence.

EDIT - I know that Skyrim isn't supposed to be stealth realistic like Deus Ex. I know this. I'm just saying that the AI seems like it hasn't evolved AT ALL since Oblivion.

.... People are going to complain because shooting something in the head doesn't kill it? It's an immersion breaker?

lol, yeah. Shame on Bethesda for not making this game more realistic. I mean, real life is full of talking dogs, dragons, magic, various races of animal men, etc. Being realistic is clearly a goal here.

Check your FPS fantasies at the door, please. Being hit in the head by an arrow is not a death sentence any more than taking a hit to the torso is.

People have helmets. And skulls. And non-essential parts of their faces.

The game is structured so that you could clear out entire dungeons of higher-level enemies with a long series of headshots.

Exactly! I'll love TES regardless :tes:

Eh I've had plenty of one shot kills so far with the bow under lvl 10. Granted I wish my arrows lodging in an eyeball would at least do more damage than the one sticking out of their chests. Yeah it's great to have balance and everything be super, but c'mon, the guy just got shot in the eyeball and it didn't do anymore damage than when he gets shot in a briastplate. You'd think at least a 20% damage bonus or somethin, it was in his eye =p

Oh, I see the problem. In Oblivion, non-fatal headshot arrows showed up protruding from the upper chest. Hokey, but less silly-looking.

If you want semi-realism, play an action game or an FPS. This is an RPG.
Might I add that the Fallout games which are (suppose to be before Fallout 3 [censored] it up) RPG's headshots does additional damage.
In none of the games it means headshot = instakill, but it does mean that headshots = larger damage dealt.

So yes, if I actually manage to hit some bastard from the shadows in the thead then I want a x3.5 or x4 sneak attack criticak damage.
