Hey Guys, couple beginner questions..

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:15 am

Now that I have decided I will be buying Skyrim,(my first TES game) there are some things I want to clear up.

I understand there is a vast array of personal info that is to be determined by the player in Skyrim such as:

Race
Religion
Name
Weapons
Magic

I'm not all too familiar with these things, and am finding it difficult to file through the heavy load of information on online databases.

Does anybody have any recommendations or tips in determining these things?

I'm looking for a basic Skyrim experience, so don't get to in-depth on me.

But then again, I don't want to overlook things that will be detrimental to my experience as a whole.

Thanks in advance guys.

Not really religion... but there are a lot of moral choices. Start slow, and soak in the basic concepts of the game. Since this is your first, just play whatever character feels the most comfortable to you. Don't be too afraid to try new things, either. I was never a big fan of magic, and now in Skyrim I would like to try it out more. Have fun. :icecream:

You don't have to choose a religion and if you want a lore friendly name try this one http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Names. As far as what race, weapons, and magic just play your way.

You may actually find this thread somewhat helpful, I thought it was kinda neat when I came across it.

Race: whatever you think looks best
Religion: doesnt matter
Name: either think up a cool name, use your own or just keep it as 'adventurer'
Weapons: Whatever you feel suits you best and you enjoy using
Magic: Same as the weapons because technically it is a weapon

Thanks, haven't been UESP yet. If I was aware of this site I probably wouldn't have posted!

Regarding other advice:

I think that taking it slow and soaking the whole world in will be the best thing for me. Real excited to explore and experience a world that I have NEVER been in. (My first TES game)

Don't you know? Its quite lore to run away newer fans of TES. They don't ''know'' so they don't ''matter''

Not my opinion, just something i've noticed.

Anyways, OP, i think you should just concentrate on the race (perks to each race) and what weapons you are likely to use. Then just go from there. I started from Morrowind, and was uttterly, utterly confused to hell...but once you start to soak it all up, you will be good to go :goodjob:

I was the same as you but with Oblivion. (played the previous TES releases after playing Oblivion) anyway, I chose whatever I thought looked cool and the most random skills and stuff. I found the game hard and boring. But aftr reading the manual and various gaming websites/forums It helps me narrow down what I wanted my character to be like and I created a new one. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Races that should help with the race you want to pick anyway :)

Edit: The plus side of my 1st character was I explored quite a lot of the map and got my bearings with the controls and enemies of the game :) so it wasn't all a waste of time :)

http://uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page

but it could be best to go through the game and learn as you go, then decide the divines/princes you will worship

your race wont mean that much i believe, but there will (hopefully) be racist people in the game

name can be anything you want, it does not matter

the weapons/magic you choose are just personal prefrence (i like using illusion, but some other people might like a good axe, its just what you like best)

Race: Every race has some advantages and disadvantages. You can see them on this link. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Nord I personally like to play a race that foreigner to the land and its people. It makes dialogue options fun. But I'll go with Nord on this one. I just love that race.

Religion: Umm.. There was a poll a couple pages back named "gods" or sth. you might want to check that for more info.

Name: A name that reflects your race and your playing style. A name like "Gulf the Cat Lover" wouldn't suit a fighting machine.

Weapons: Based on what you like. Bashing heads, sneaking and get a clean shot with your bow, rain storms on enemies etc. It's about your play style.

Magic: I personally don't use much of them. Only basic ones. It's about your game style.

i just started playing dark messiah of m & m and it's much more fun if you don't know what's going on.

(I have a feeling that the player is the dark messiah?)

The whole point of these games is that you can play them however you want to and truly make it what you want it to be. Experiment a bit, see what works for you and just have fun with it and get lost in the world!

I believe you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun TES games are. You will be hooked and want to try the ones before Skyrim as well! My advice is to just take your time and explore everything. Stop and smell the roses, so to speak, and you will not be disappointed. Try Alchemy and Smithing your own weapons. You will have lots of fun, I guarantee.
