High level spells cost too much magicka?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:03 pm

I noticed the cost of higher level spells are a LOT of magicka. Even though you get the perks to half them for each type (novice, adept, expert, etc.), the highest level spells cost like 400 or so when you are mastered. and if you are level 50 and you increase 10 magicka every level then you are able to cast that spell a couple times til you are OOM. It just doesnt seem right for me to play a mage character if i only get to use a spell once of twice and then wait til my magicka fills up.

Those are just high level spells. Weren't there spells in Oblivion you could only cast if you fortified your magicka with a potion or something? I don't know, I remember something like that....

its probably like in oblvion where the cost of casting spells goes down the higher your skill with that college of magic is.

also, usually the top end spells are meant to be used once for balance reasons, my suggestions: invest in alchemy to craft restore magicka potions or buy them.

well if you mean why can't a warrior cast a high level spell I'm ok with that, they shouldn't be able to

if you mean why can't a mage cast more than 1 time I think you can with the right perks deep enough into a tree and enough magicka/equipment.

it's all relative

Also, invest in scrolls.

Since we can't craft our own spells this time, the high level spells are probably balanced to only be used once or twice without recharging your magicka. And yes, you probably want to be wearing items that Fortify your Magicka and also robes that increase your Magicka regeneration rate.

i guess i never played a mage character in oblivion so i wouldnt know the similarity.

also it kinda svcks cause i dont think you would even be able to dual cast those high level spells due to the cost as well.

hopefully theres decent enchants for fortify magicka, although i dont see them being that much of a help with how much magicka is needed.

A lot of magic upgrades deal with reducing the magicka cost. I'd prefer to do more damage with my destruction spells, but reduced cost is nice too.

Yes, high end spells cost a lot. Even in Obl. That's why only a skilled mage, with a ton of Magicka and some enchanted gear to buff things out, are the ones that can effectively make use of such Nuke Bombs. Even at high levels, a good strategy plays a role in expensive casting.
