Higher Hopes for ESVI

Well I want to start off by saying first and foremost that I LOVE Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls franchise. I've played over 700+ hours on Skyrim with a total of 4 different characters to which 3 of them were over 60 and had completed a good 90% of everything there. This includes scouring the map for all destinations to be uncovered, all dungeons visited, all main quest lines finished ( This includes Dawnguard and Hearthfire all though Hearthfire was not really anything but housing ). I have collected all of Delvin's Larceny ( Which is still bugged btw ) as well the No Stone Unturned line and the Dragon Priests Mask series. As well I have every single Shout learned ( With a bug on Drain Vitality where I have 3 different versions of that shout one of which is identical to the other but instead of 1 point drain it's 2 points ).

This being said, I'm still working on the achievements. Work on the Werewolf perks at this time then I'll do the Vampire perks. But the Oblivion Walker needs some kind of fix to it. I don't want to hear how all of the achievements are "Qualified" because after having had that line given to me via an email from Bethesda and then blaming it on Mods ( Which on my last character I went through all of the above without a single mod one. Not a single one used at all and I even reformatted my computer recently and reinstalled Skyrim so I know nothing was there to mess with it. I even deleted all of the cloud side saves ). There are a lot of bugs in this game that I find really annoying and sometimes so frustrating to deal with I end up just quitting till I feel up to dealing with them more.

Here's a few of the ones that get you frustrated.

Oblivion Walker: You have every single Deadric quest done, all 15 items are in your possession and yet you still get no credit for this achievement, even with it being Qualified? Hmmmm.....

Walking through the door in the Flaggen ( Thieves Guild ) to the Cistern brings the game to the desktop fast ( Only had this since Hearthfire )

Having targeted NPC's just flat out ignore your Arrows, they go right through them and it's like you're missing.

Having yourself in sneak mode, a great distance away from target, only to have them step out of the way of your approaching arrow at the last second with their backs turned to you on top of it all.

Dragons are crash landing before they're dead, which isn't so much annoying as that one is funny, but they shouldn't be doing this they didn't when the game first started.

Dragons not giving you their souls after killing them and they're right at your feet.

The one quest up at Dawnstar where you have to take care of the Deadric lord that is causing all the nightmares? Don't save while inside, it will crash the game ( At least it has on several attempts for me ) and sometimes the door will not fade so you can walk through it and you have to use a console command to ignore the geometery to get through it.

Having Breezehome as your house in Whiterun lose your adopted children where the pet sees them but no one else can. ( NO MODS USED btw just the ones from Bethesda themselves known as DLC's ). Killing the fox was one attempt to fix it, that didn't work. Using console commands only created more problems. This is the character that didn't make it to 60, only like 32, and I deleted and started over because even the NPC I chose for my wife was acting odd too due to the bug with the children.

The Delvin's Larceny has an issue that has been known for a very long time, which I mucked up and didn't think about it, but I had the last 4 objects he was looking for on me and went to turn them in only to find the quest no longer listed or active and he wasn't responsive. I had to use console commands to place them up on the shelves and get rid of the copies as that was my only option other than starting character number 5 which at this point I wanted no part of.

Both the Falkreath and Dawnstar homes can get so bugged that even approaching the door can cause you to crash. Once the house becomes this unstable, then you have no choice but to just stay the heck away from it or start a new game only knowing that this will happen again. Last time it happened I had moved all of my crafting to there as I felt that should have been okay, but it surely wasn't once the house became so unstable in it's use that I just couldn't stand it anymore and that is also a widely known issue amongst a lot of players across the net.

And there is absolutely NONE of the display cases usable at all in any house you build. Why is that?

Now, my first character reached 61, never used mods, never really cared to try them out. That character got lost due to my reformatting of my system. I didn't mind really because I wanted to do some stuff different this time around from the first time. Second character reached 62, I did have some mods, most of them were just things that added to the looks of the game, scenery and lighting as well as weather enhancements. After having been told that they wouldn't be resonsible or help with a game altered by mods basically, I removed all of them and deleted anything on the cloud side as well as on my end. Reinstalled Skyrim, then started all new character. That is the one that got to 32 and got bugged on the Adopted Children, they said the only way that could happen was that I deactivated Hearthfire. Well, I have some sad news for them, I didn't deactivate a thing. The point of my going through the game this time other than replacing my lost character, was to show that there ARE bugs that really need looking into. So NO MODS were used ever on my last two characters.

My 4th and final character that I have created, again, NO MODS used. Is now approaching 61, has everything thing done as listed at the start of this. There is not much left other than getting the map fully explored and doing a few odd and end quest from NPC's that are spread out all over. I do not count radiant quests because those are nothing more than daily quests in a stand alone game. They do not count towards this game being completed. I have aquired so much that I have stored at my home to make screenshots of to show I have indeed obtained and done all that I've said here to any Bethesda Support Tech.

Now I will go on record as of now, after having done all of this and had the very same bugs that were pointed out as being the fault of MODS ( That I did not use any of ) I now have reinstalled two of my mods, one of which is Apachii's Hair and CBBE 3.2 and that's it. I got tired of looking at my wood elf and having her remind me of a old beat up version of SPOCK! Other than that, nada!

Again, I wish to thank Bethesda for making this game. I by no means am knocking them except for the support that I've recieved is more along the lines I'd expect from Blizzard back in WoW or D3. When you always point the finger of blame at mods or the player's end and not accepting or owning up to the bugs that you know full well are there from everyone talking about them at one point or another. That does get old and it makes the person feel like why do I even bother reporting them to you if you're just going to blame it on me. This is my only complaint. I've been in computers since the early 80's, I've been building my computers since the mid 90's, I've been Tech Support and got out of it for a reason mind you. But while I was there I did at least try to find out and do my best to make sure I covered every detail when dealing with issues.

I feel like today the computer software industry as well as computers in general have dropped the ball in quality over quantity. It's all about getting more out, getting it out faster, getting everything done as soon as possible, not caring about how buggy it can or will be. Just get those people to spend their money and not worry too much about it later. That is becoming the norm in all lines of technology lately. As long as they have license agreements that protect them from having to give money back on bad product in the software industry, I feel they will never focus on the quality end of things and or the support especially because you can't return it, so they can't lose money on it. You're stuck!

Granted I wouldn't return Skyrim as I said, it's not all bad, just the bad spots in it should have been acknowledged and taken care of. No game is ever going to be perfect and I realize this, because every PC out there is completely different from one to the other and there is where a lot of bugs come into play. No game company can possibly make a PC based game that works well on ALL systems due to drivers, hardware, software conflicts of varying kinds. I get this and understand it. It's just when someone like myself goes through the amount of troubleshooting I do, try to explain what has happened, what I was doing when it happened and what I'm running and so on...... That's when I get get a little bent and feel that I'm being treated like some off the street kid that just got his first computer.

So here's to my hopes for Elder Scrolls VI, what ever the title will be, that they go back to taking far less shortcuts and putting forth the quality we're all used to seeing from Bethesda with far fewer bugs. There are a lot of other minor bugs I did not mention as I knew this was going to be a rather lengthy post and they didn't really fall under importance to mention. Minor bugs one can work around, but some of the ones I've mentioned here you can't really. The ones I did work around gained me no credit for completion and I'm going to have to live with that because I seriously don't wish to do another character unless it's to play one completely different than the one I have now that I wish to get to 80+ this time around.

For the Record: My Computer Specs
Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB of DDR3
2 WD Raptor Drives ( 10,000 rpm )
nVidia 450 GTS 1024 of DDR5
2 Pioneer DVD Internal Media
2 Monitors, 27" and 19"

I run the game on a 27" Samsung LED Monitor with the recommended graphics settings set by the game which is High. When I first got the game however I could run it at Ultra, it was a tad bit laggy in big fights with draggons but that was it. Now I have to run it on High, because it's gotten to the point even going through a door I have to wait at least 10 seconds before starting to move around so it want launch me all over the place. I think the longer you play the more it starts to eat up memory, typical memory leak situation which is common with most games. Not 100% on that, it's just a guess on my part. Also the more you complete and add items to a home the longer the load time is going through the door. So eh, used to that.

Anyway, I'll be back tonight beating out more levels clearing up more of the map as I do plan to have this character as close as I can to 70+ before Dragonborn is released to the PC. Hopefully it will have a lot of bug fixes with it or a pretty good patch before it's released. Again, Thanks Bethesda for such a great game, for even with these mentioned bugs and issues, I still do love playing Skyrim!

Are you using or tried using the unnoffical patch? I can't say my game experience has been bug free but I have about the same amount of hours in as well as 4 characters and my list is nowhere as long as yours.

A tip: Backup extraneous saves elsewhere only leave like about 10 in the game save folder...this should help with load times and some issues.

As far as achievements go I have gotten jipped there as well.....being a completionist this is frustrating to say the least.

Return to V - Skyrim
