Hints at the Hero of Oblivion

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 10:42 pm

Two theories that I've seen floating around the community:

1) At one point in the Dark Brotherhoods quests you find a note or hear that the Adoring Fan was an Assasin who got into the good graces of the Grand Champion then killed him in the woods.
Was this the fate of the great Hero of Oblivion?

2) Another point is that after doing the Shivering Isle quest line you take the role of Sheogorath...is the Hero of Oblivion the Sheogorath interacted with during the shrine quest in Skyrim? Or did Sheogorath replace him?

I haven't done either of these and need proper citing but this is what I've heard.

It's all still pretty much up in the air. There are no definitive facts on what happened to the CoC and anything else is just speculation.

Regardless of what is hinted at in game, I prefer to come up with my own idea of what happened to my character. He obviously got eaten by a mudcrab.

My guess is that over time the new sheogorath slowly turns into what they all look like eventually. Daedric Princes can appear as anything anyway. It makes sense that teh CoC would eventually choose the original form. Then they won't have to change any statues! :D

My character on the PS3 version only completed the Shivering Isles. Soooooooooo that's his home, and he's never coming out. Anything anyone says about my CoC in Skyrim is obviously a liar, or just driven mad by all the celebrations involving cheese.

It's obviously Sheogorath, it has to be. He mentions the Oblivion crisis and being there.

Or you can go with that Sheogorath pretty much tricks the CoC and drives them insane for his own amusment....he was there whe nthe Oblivion crisis happened....watching all the choas unfold through his little portal at bravil.

Seems like something he would do.

BLASPHEMY!

My CoC got drunk, wandered into Morrowind, and was obliterated by Vvardenfell erupting, along with my Neveravine. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

I'm not a fan of Solitude either, but it's worth it to see Sheogorath. The quest is very interesting!

Indeed it is a fun quest. One of my favorite thus far. Still, while what Sheo says does make it seem like he could have been the CoC it is still somewhat open so if your CoC did something different it will work.

I like to think of myself as being deliberately incarnated whenever Tamriel most requires my intervention to continue existing.
I am the Nerevarine, CoC and Dohvakiin. I am also Sheogorath when it suits me.
Basically I'm a mostly benevolent but extremely capricious and often sadistic elder spirit with my own agenda. I just like buggering about in Mundus too much to see it get destroyed.

I don't try too hard to fit this view of the PC's into lore. I'm a bit of lore no one in Tamriel has managed to figure out or describe yet.

Spoiler
In the quest "Mind of Madness," Sheogorath is talking to Pelagius (as in Emperor Pelagius III) and remarks that Pelagius was the best Septim monarch to rule. Then corrects himself, noting that Martin turned into a Dragon-God and that it was hard to compete with that. He goes on to say that he was there for that whole affair (referencing his time as the Champion of Cyrodiil) and mentions the Grey Fox's Cowl as a "Fox and severed head."
When doing the quest, I just couldn't help but smile at this little reference to our Hero of Oblivion.

As for the thing regarding the Adoring Fan, that would be pretty messed up, as my OB character was a God-King of his own realm and vanquished an alter-ego of who he was to become. That aside, if the Adoring Fan really was an assassin, then that is pretty funny, because all these years we have seen him as a simple nuisance and comic gag atop (and eventually at the bottom) of Dive Rock. He is like a master of disguise if that is true

You also have to consider, a new Grand Champion would be crowned when the CoC went to Shivering Isles.

Dear god.... The Adoring Fan....

Cicero's diary could not have applied to the CoC, as it was dated a long time after the events of the Oblivion crisis. Just a little nod from Bethesda at the hate surrounding the Adoring Fan in Oblivion. Definitely not the CoC though.

And Sheogorath is most likely th CoC, in my opinion. He basically confirms it, but I think Bethesda kept it ambiguous for roleplaying purposes etc.
