Okay well, i've got an issue with buying the house Hjerim in Windhelm - Blood on the ice
I know that this is a common bug -(or whatever you want to call it).. I hope that someone can clear this up a bit, because I've read so much and dont know what to think or do anymore.


* So i've been visiting this Jorleif guy a lot, hoping that he will let me buy the house, unfortunately that's not the case..
When I say that I would like to purchase a house in the city, he tells me this:

There is an empty home in the city, but there was some unpleasantness receltly. I'm afraid it's not available just yet.


- I stole the key from... (don't know if it was jorleif or somebody else) so I actually CAN enter the house.
- There are bones and blood on the floor, I've found the secret room and picked up the butchers notes and journal.
- I know who the butcher is, stole his journal from the chest in his shop and I've got the strange amulet.
- I can't confront the butcher..
- And I cant talk to Viola cause there opens no 'menu'.


* Is it possible that the quest won't start because I've killed someone ( for the dark brotherhood; finished ) who was supposed to trigger the quest?

And if there is no solution of solving this on your own.. is there maybe a chance that "bethesda" will fix this?

Did you arrest the mage first or catch the real killer first because arresting the mage first causes some glitch I think where you might not be able to complete the quest.

P.S. Did you get the ability from the Stormcloak or Imperial questline?

Make sure you have a "beware the butcher" flyer when you talk to viola

It sounds like you've done a few things that can break the chain of events.

Did the quest ever start properly?
Dispatching Muiri's secondary target can definitely kill the quest, too.

Have you progressed to the necessary point in the CW questline? No matter what else you do, the right to buy the property is tied into the CW quests.

Wait the necromancer is not the killer?

Shh.

This should get you back on track. But it IS a buggy quest. I finally had to use the wiki to guide me through all the steps...

And as stated above, you have to advance to a certain point in the CW questline (different points depending on which side you choose).
