Holiday Music

Post » Mon Dec 24, 2012 11:22 pm

So how do you feel about holiday music? Personally, I hate it. Its so cheery and poppy, and none of the songs really have a decent purpose. The religious music might have a purpose but I'm not religious, so it serves no purpose to me. I can understand children liking holiday music, but if you like holiday music, please explain why. I just don't see it

I just mean its there for the holidays and makes no sense otherwise. Probably could have worded that better.

Where I work holiday music is constantly playing. Once you hear "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" for the nth time, it really dampens your holiday spirit.

There is a lot of seasonal music out there that makes no sense at other times of the year.

I don't like holiday songs either. It's too cheery even for a guy who likes to watch a certain children's cartoon with equally cheery songs.
I think they do serve some purpose. Christmas spirit and all that. Kids probably like them because when they hear them, they know they're about to get presents. Silly me and my silly theories...

"Serving no purpose" wasn't really what I should have said. It has its purpose, but only for kids, and only around the holidays. Thats another reason I don't like it. Its not like It makes sense to jam to holiday music in April.

I think being cheerful is the purpose of many Holiday songs. There's music for just about every ocassion, Holidays are no exception. Besides, quite a bit of the music is damn catchy and I listen to some Christmas songs year-round.
