Holy Alduin! Dead Thrall is badass!

I admit that my charterer is a conjuration buff... but not necromancy. Hes more into the battle with his swords.

I decided to use this with a couple of bandits that I've recently killed... 1 a Marauder was a mage and holy poop does my little bandit pet kick some royal ass! I'm actually getting jealous because he ended up slaying a dragon with his fire balls.

I'm yet to try it, but am planning on having a few of them myself soon after changing to The Ritual Stone. ;) My Conjuration is 95ish right now, so it won't take long... Even Falion can't teach me anymore. :)

Just be careful, once you start collecting perma-corpse prospects. Plenty of very strange glitches might start popping up.

What kind? I'd like to reread the topic about them since I recall there was such... And somehow I link your avatar to those necromancy discussions as well. :P Thanks for the warning anyways, I'll be careful and save a lot (and ofc in different slots, too).

Oh geeze another glitch that might happen? What am I to be expected? When I'm done with my pets I put them to sleep forever. Does that help? I do notice that with some don't even respond, nor follow me. They just idle. is this a glitch that you're speaking about?

Okay, I wasn't sure if you really wanted to know. Now that you do, lemme see if I can make any sense.

It all began with Susanna The Wicked: if you do Blood on The Ice in the wrong order, she becomes a permacorpse and will stay in the cemetary. She doesn't get moved into the Hall of The Dead. After that, I began collecting what I suspected were perma-corpses from various quests; some were named, but many had names that were race-related: nord. Breton. etc. I brought them all to the cemetary and beheaded them. This was kind of a bad idea!

A beheaded perma-corpse is in itself permanently dead, there forever. It can't become ash, and you can't resurrect it anymore. Too many beheaded perma-corpses in one area really made my Windhelm take a MAJOR FPS hit. So be careful with this.
I started moving my extras into the Hall of The Dead.

There are a few perma-corpses in the game that are extremely glitchy. One of them is Eltrys, after the Forsworn Conspiracy quest.
- You can access his body's loot prior to the first Deadthrall.
- You can't if he's killed afterwards; but he can be Thralled again.
- If beheaded, his headless corpse might appear randomly on the floor within cells, wherever you go.

* There are at least two other beheaded perma-corpses that also appear randomly when I enter/exit cells. I found one of them when I exited the New Gnisis club.

There's another perma-corpse, not sure which! I wish I knew--but every single NPC reacts to me permanently, as if I had a thrall with me. They say "that spell looks dangerous. Keep your distance." It doesn't matter if I already Thralled two others and cancelled that altogether; it should all cancel out.
But they all think I have a thrall, and it's permanent.

I hope that helps... and there are tons of perma-corpses out there. Just remember, beheading is fun--but it's permanent within that cell.

Yeah, I remembered some of this. I thought of using Death Thrall only on those I have just killed myself, not on already dead perma-corpses. Also, Susan the Wicked hasn't even been in the cemetary for a while; I got lucky and got through Blood on the Ice without problems. Wouldn't use the spell on her even if I could. :)

I was excited to use her, because with the wounds on her body, she was pretty much the only unique "body" in Skyrim. Astrid doesn't count; she can be Thralled, but her corpse isn't permanent.

Hypothetically, what would happen if I brought Susan back via console, killed her, and thralled her? Would I get a non-glitched, non-wounded Susan? I.e. is the dead, wounded, glitchy cemetery Susan a different NPC? I'd doubt it goes just like this.

I'm on 360, I have no idea.
I'd assume that when she's scripted to die, her body gets replaced with the slashed version. Try it.

Turns out that I could already make the Conjuration Ritual Quest even if my Conjuration skill wasn't maxed yet - yay! So, my first ever use of Dead Thrall was this test on Susanna. Using Susanna's RefID, I'll get just the ordinary living Susanna. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/2092/susannathrall.png. There's no information in her UESPWiki article about the slashed version's IDs, so I can't bother to look further into this. There might be a way to get an unglitchy slashed Susanna, I think, if she was enabled, resurrected and moved to player, then Thralled. If we only knew that body's IDs.

Have two undead giant spiders to poison and ensnare your enemies? Sounds cool to me.

Does dead thrall synergize with the ritual stone? With both, will thralls raised with the ritual stone remain reanimated?

A weird glitch that I have found is that former thralls of mine would ambush me after fast traveling. I think that it may be linked to their original cell resetting, as it wouldn't happen until some time had passed. It is quite surprising to have Briarhearts, Arch Necromancers, and Volkihar Master Vampires showing up inside the Blue Palace.

If you're on the PC, this can be done through a script. I resurrect animals all the time in the wild.

More Powerrful Necromancy mod lets you resurrect anything that doesn't disintegrate upon death, kind of cool.

It's cool until you fast travel a few times and your dead thrall mysteriously vanishes but the active effects say they're still around...i've lost several sweet thralls this way

For some reason the AI isn't as good as normal companions, maybe thats because the thralls were originally enemies and not intended as followers. Also their gear always resets to their original

yes. she's a completely different npc. i resurrected her by ID, and she's alive and well and serving drinks. however, her doppleganger is very much dead, having taken stab wounds all over. interestingly, her stabbed doppleganger can not be resurrected. the first day though. . . she wouldn't open her eyes, walked around with her eyes closed, was a little creepy.

I recommend a few thralls bandit cheifs, bandit maruader mages, and northwarch guards. also beware of a cave east of solitude that has unique bandits your thralls will get stuck there
