Home Gaming vs Mobile Gaming

For the choices of this poll, I am assuming that devices like the PSP or the DS are considered traditional video game platforms along with the consoles and PC, and Mobile is for games to be played on Phones or Tablets.

I was reading this article where the author pontificates about Mobile Gaming Platforms and their life expectancy. His view is that the mobile game market just can't survive and compete against traditional video game platforms.

The author goes on to state the the lack of financial performance of mobile gaming companies is the reason why mobile gaming won't take off. I think the market may be too young to decide just what is a mobile game and what is game that folks will play at home. Until then, the game developers are still trying to create a market. Of course, this is an article from an investment site, so their view of success is different than yours or mine. To me, if the game is good, the company was successful. Whether they will stay in business or not is another thing entirely.

Personally, from what I have seen, mobile games are either simple games, like Angry Birds or the game they ripped off, Crash the Castle; or they are mobile versions of a traditional game with limited game play. I have not explored all the mobile games out there, but what I have seen does not lead me to think I am going to have a Dishonored or Skyrim type of experience on my iPhone.

So, do you game mobile or not, and if you do, is it a big part of your gaming or are you just getting a gaming fix while out and about?

I'm playing Fallout New Vegas with a few mods on my tablet, is that considered mobile gaming?
