Hoof and ponytail hurting after gym?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:06 pm

Can anyone explain this? I went to the gym 2 days ago and did some weight lifting, and I swear my arm( especially around the elbow) and sides hurt. Mostly my arm however. I can't even bend it down all the way. Its a constant pain, and even simple tasks like getting up from my bed hurts

I've read it goes away within a day, but it still feels the same as it did yesterday and before yesterday. Any suggestions on how to make it go away or ease the pain?

Also, Im pretty sure it's normal, but would like to be confirmed.

Was it long since last time you worked out? This is very normal, been playing football (soccer) and running since I was a little kid and my legs often hurts the days after, especially if I haven't stretched out or worked out for a while. I've had hurting legs for 3-4 days at worst, it's nothing to worry about, it'll eventually go away.

As far making it go away, I don't know. The most important thing I've learned is to stretch out to prevent it from happening at all.

You worked out too much and probably strained your muscles by lifting too much weight. Apply some heat rub such as IcyHot or Bengay, take some Advil, etc. You'll be just fine in a day or two.

Are you talking about the part of the arm which is opposite of the elbow? That part of my arm hurt for a few days but it's normal if you haven't worked out for a while. If you get back in a routine, it shouldn't really hurt anymore.

About two days ago. I did some stretching yes, maybe it was because my muscles weren't use to weight lifting. More like stuffing food in my mouth lol. Perhaps when I go to the gym more the pain will slowly last longer.

You're using "arm", singular. Does that mean only one arm is hurting? If so, it's very likely you did things wrong.

Whether it's normal or not depends on what kind of pain it is; if it's soreness (being a sensation, these things are hard to describe :hehe:), you're probably fine. If it's hurting in some other way, you may not be.

If you are concerned, I recommend getting checked out by a nurse or doctor. They know how and where to poke and prod, what questions to ask you, and how to interpret all that. Better to cough up some money and know you're okay than dismiss it and find out later that you've buggered something up.

It's called tennis elbow. Congrats -- you've overworked yourself. Next time you gym, decrease the weight by 30%. That should ensure you don't hurt yourself again.

The pain should subside within a week or so.

Anaerobic respiration causes the production of lactic acid in your muscles. This is, essentially, a poison and also VERY normal, particularly if it is the first time you have worked out for a while. Everybody gets it. Next time you work out you will it will ache less, as your body is more or less prepared for the onslaught by then. That's the pain in your side. Your elbow, you probably did something wrong but it'll be fine. Either using too much weight or, more likely, the wrong technique. Remember to straighten your arm slowly when using weights. Don't got flinging it around when working out.

Start off slow with weightlifting especially. I've seen too many people overload on how much weight they lift. Start off by warming up and if you're bench pressing or using dumbells, only lift what is very easy to lift. Lift in repetition until you feel pumped up. Then increase the weight to your liking.

I need to start working out again. I'm getting out of shape.

The first time you go to a gym in a long time without working out your muscle can hurt for many days, even a week or two. Is it your armpits? Man I remember that, really nasty. If you go 2 or 3 times a week the pain will go away after the first couple of weeks, if you stop expect pain when you restart again a few months down the line!

Could also be the result of bad form or posture when carrying out the exercise. Proper posture is key.

This. Or DOMS. Probably the latter though (delayed onset muscle soreness).

Are you stretching before and after the workout? That's probably the biggest thing you can do to reduce soreness AND injury from excercise.

I'll probably be repreating what has already been said, but...
  • Has it been a bit since you've been physically exerting yourself significantly? For example, if its been a month, even that could throw your body off, i.e. your body might not have been used to the physical exertion you were undergoing. That could easily cause what you are experiencing.
  • Also, remember to stretch. I'm pretty sure its very important. If you do already, maybe consider finding some new stretching exercises to incorporate, as well as maybe spending some more time on them before using weight and et cetera.
If its (1), then I wouldn't worry about it. If you continue with your routine, the pain will probably take a bit to go away (maybe weeks), but that's not necessarily a bad thing, but just something to "push through," in my opinion, anyway. If you want, you could take a break of a week or two and only do stretches. If you're still feeling pains, then I would see a professional.

I had an intense pain (Read: INTENSE) for two weeks after having pledged to a fraternity. I was scared to death I had severed or broken a muscle, but after the two weeks it just went away, and my abs were very defined for a while thereafter (:

Pain is just weakness leaving the body. You are doing fine.
