My (hopefully fair) thoughts on Crysis 2

Post » Mon May 24, 2010 2:22 am

I am...to an extent....enjoying Crysis 2, ill point that out right now.

whilst i do somewhat disagree with the graphics argument people are having, it is in contrast to many games, a beautiful specimen, but of course, nowhere near Crysis 1.

I am hugely enjoying the story, but for one reason: when i play, i force the name crysis out of my head and imagine it to be a new franchise. The bugs are traditional Crysis territory, but sometimes very funny (watching a c.e.l.l. guy drop a grenade in front of him and watch it blow up in his face had me lol'ing for a good while). I just dont understand why the story has taken such a gargantuan leap away from its roots?

There are numerous problems (many i have experienced myself) but for the most part its the REASON why these problems exist rather than the problems themselves that annoy me, ive played my share of buggy games and i can forgive them if it has redeeming qualities, but for these problems to exist so blatantly because concessions had to be made for it to work on a console platform is something i just cannot forgive.

Crytek, you have spent the ENTIRE run up to this release bragging about the prowess of the game and the engine and in many cases/instances of the video previews provided, quite rightly so. The simultaneous rendering displayed with the sandbox editor (not included) made many amatuer designers like myself giddy, The texture work we were shown in the videos and in promotional screens, which made many of us very eager to experience the same level of prowess youve shown us before, just isnt present in any way.

This is Crysis 1, the texture work here outstrips anything in crysis 2 and its from a game that is 4 years its senior.

Now, Crytek has, in my opinon one of the best development teams around, when i first got to play Crysis on a friend's rig it blew me away, that anyone could possibly replicate natural light alone with such clarity. And to see the team take such a massive step backwards in terms of that talent and dedication, doesnt make me angry, it just makes me sad, such massive potential for beauty, wasted, for what? to make EA happy i presume?

Now as stated, im not angry, anger doesnt help. Im just....disapointed and thats the tone of the forums aswell. Disapointment, i dont feel entitled in any way, though i should, im not demanding anything from you Crytek, neither am i going to swear not to buy any of your games again. Your team has a hideous amount of talent, heck id even like to work for you guys. But come on, a team that can create Crysis 1, is a team that is supremely dedicated to pc gamers and pc gaming as a platform...

What happened?

LOL Holy krap lol at first glance i thought you had posted a real life photo
and wondering why'd you do that and then i look at the second comment
and then i had to enlarge it and re-examine it and then LOL i was shocked at the quality.
I completely agree with the OP, I am very disappoint.

While as a game i am currently enjoy playing Crysis 2
but in relation to Crysis 1 it just doesn't have that 'wow' factor that
smacks your face when you enter the game the first time. :(
