Horse, why do you svck so bad?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 3:01 am

Alright, I like the idea of all horses being roughly the same instead of their color having some weird effect on how hardy they are (Oblivion).

However, why do they have to be stupid and weak? I mean come on, one or the other would be great... but as it is now my horse will fight and then try to run away when its health gets too low, only to be killed because its weak as hell.

Anyone else have this problem?

HORSE DEATH
I haven't had a problem with horse death, but (i) I'm only lvl 13 and (ii) I'm really careful about the horse to begin with. I sympathize with you though. My horse tends to fight way too much. Running headlong into a group of baddies wouldn't be so bad if the horse wasn't so big, and always getting in the way of my power attacks. It would be even worse if I was a caster attempting to BBQ the whole area.

HORSE FLIGHT
This really gets on my nerves. I've spent more time searching for my 'loyal steed' than I care to admit. I wish there was a horse whistle or something to call it back once you've cleared the area.

Bah. Horses. Who needs 'em?

I ditched mine once I realized that I could run faster and sprint longer when I was on foot.

Hah. Last night I was exploring around the Throat of the World and got attacked by a dragon. It couldn't have happened at a worse time as I had lost my companion and I was critically low on healing potions. Spent an hour huddling behind cover and taking pot shots with terribly low archery skill. When I finally grounded the damn thing my companion showed up and we dispatched the monster. My horse watched the whole thing from only a few feet away and didn't move an inch.

10 minutes after the battle we got jumped by 3 wolves and my horse went running off into the woods. Spent the next 20 minutes searching for him. :sadvaultboy:

A work around for the flight is to fast travel to where you are at already, or nearest place, and the horse will be right beside you again. It's the only time I use fast travel as it breaks my feeling of immersion.

The controls are the only thing thats better, everything else took a step backword. I found an unowned horse and rode it for a bit, but ended up getting off and just leaving it. They're slow, suicidal, and weak... I'd rather walk honestly.

My first horse died due to me forcing it to jump off of cliffs, the horse i have now however i hardly ever see unless i fast travel somewhere but then a dragon or something will appear and it will run off and i won't find it again until the next time i fast travel...

I got a shadowmere horse from the dark brotherhood and It helped me take on 3 guards. Its pretty strong but I don't expect my horse to be good in every fight because horses aren't for fighting. I use my horse when I need to get to new places.

15 hours in, still got my first horse. She has a real dislike of spiders though, runs halfway across Skyrim to attack them.

People who like to carry stuff. If you have a horse, you can still run even if you exceed maximum encumbrance. It's really the best thing about horses.

But I don't use my horse to fight. In fact, I leave it behind at the first sign of trouble. I mean, I like my horse. :( I don't want it to die.

The first thing I did in Skyrim was to join the Dark Brotherhood. And I only did DB Quests (and it was such a pleasure!) and met my old good friend Shadowmere. This Horse beats the crap out of Mobs (even Dragons) and sometimes rescued my life (I play on adept mode, think that's normal difficulty?) .

Yea me too, but when I see people on the road and I dismount several yards from them because I dont know who they are and if they will attack me. The problem is that when I am in combat with the random people or things, my horse joins in the fray instead of standing clear... which leads to his death.

You will have to wait for mods which allow horses to be summoned and they're running speed to be increased.

Plus the animations for when they are running is still a little tacky.

Was amazed to see my 4-legged friend 'tanking' a dragon...and surviving.

Though I like the way horses have been implemented this time (handling, animation etc seems just right), it doesn't feel right to mount up with your companion running along behind. I assume there's no way to get mounts for companions?

However tend to use the horse less and less when exploring anyway, since it's annoying having to dismount every time you see some plants you want to gather or if you want to fight. Most annoying is when the horse wanders off/ gets lost. Don't suppose there's a 'summon steed' command?

Riding a horse causes unexplainable lagspikes for me.. lagspikes that never occur on foot.

Horses have always been beyond useless in TES. I didn't expect any changes in Skyrim, and honestly, it doesn't bother me. I prefer sprinting over the beautiful landscape.

I haven't bothered with a horse since the one I paid 1000 gold for a few mins earlier decided to glitch its way to the top of a tower to attack some bandits, only to run back down the stairs and die when it's health was low.

I found a horse by a Stormcloak camp, and it was listed with a white name, not red. So, just for giggles, I mounted up and rode it around for awhile. Now anytime I fast travel anywhere, there it is, ready to ride. So, I'm on my first horse, for free, and feeling like it's pretty cool. Not sure it's 1000g cool, but it's cool.

I was ambushed by two witches on either side on the road. I dismount and went after one while my horse charged after the other. After I finished "my" witch, I ran over to kill the other one. When I got there, not only was the witch on the ground with my warhorse rearing-up and kicking it, she was pleading for mercy! Seriously! I laughed so hard, I just stepped back, sheathed my weapon and drank some ale (restore stamina) while watching the show.

I wonder if horses have a "perk tree"?

Yeah I'm not sure about the OP. I'm still on my original horse for a while now. He will combat some creatures, and other fights he steps back out of harms way. And I find them much improved over Oblivion.
