On Horses, and their intelligence, or complete lack thereof

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 7:29 pm

So, I can't believe how unbelievably stupid they made horses.

Anytime I'm dismounted in combat, the horse just has to join in.

It was one thing for the horse to start beating on wolves with it's hooves. I understand that.

But then I'm parked at the top of a hill, where the giants can't get me, firing arrows, and suddenly for no reason the horse decides it needs to LEAVE THE SAFETY OF THE HILL and go attack A GIANT.

Of course the horse died in one hit while I scream out in anguish.

Then later on I see a dragon, so I dismount and run a bit so my horse will be safe.

Here I am fighting this huge bloody dragon AND MY HORSE CHARGES INTO THE FRAY OF BATTLE TO HELP ME.

And of course the dragons constantly circle, so the horse RUNS AHEAD to SOLO THE DRAGON. I'm RUNNING AND SCREAMING and watching this dragon ENGULF my poor horse in great belches of flame and hoping I can distract it before the horse is a steak.

I paid 1,000 gold for you, horse, stop trying to be the hero of the story. You are not dragonborn.

(thank god for resurrect cheats)

i seen my brother playing his game were he owns a horse , i won't be buying one . They look to be a right pain in the [censored] in fights . They are alot better than in oblivion for riding around on but just to much hassle in fights.

Yep my horse is a [censored], runs into combat whenever possible and just takes off whenever I get off of it. Thankfully I found it standing around in the wilderness for free, lord knows I wouldn't buy one.

Dismount your horse before you go into combat.. Besides, who rides up on a horse, worried about their horse getting killed, and says howdy pilgram, I am here to kill you, then dismounts and starts battle:) The first thing folks should go for is the riders horse so the rider can't get away.....

Btw, wherever I park my horse, he stays... Weird hu?

Leave your horse a ways away and do your thing..

LoL.
Damn.

Thanks for posting this valuable information.

I'll be saving that 1000 gold then and will instead blow part of it on one of those for hire mercs I saw lounging
around some bar.

Say, has anyone tried setting your horse mount to
isessential???

If so, maybe that would solve it until this can be patched and or modded properly.

One can always adjust the knock out sleep time to longer than default so your stupid horse
does not jump up right away after being taken out.

I forget the console command for that right now, but it is laying around somewhere.

If you are attacked while on your horse there's not much you can do about it yeah? Plus I can leave my horse a ways away and it still charges into battle with all eagerness to get turned into steak.

I think the solution to this is to use a calm spell.

HA good one. I decided to get a dog instead of the horse. I worry about him in combat the same way, but at least you can make him wait far away if you no your getting in to some S**t

Hackworthy,

Had not thought of that.. I was attacked once in combat by a wolf and my horse did very little..

When I did the silent moons camp quest, I left my horse just outside the fort.. When I returned, he was still there and had not moved.. I'll keep an eye out for more glitches..

Cheers sir,

Sawacs
