i can seem to set hot keys. i go into the menu were you can pick level up, or majic or items. the hold mouse over weapon to hotkey. then hold key?

You have to favorite an item in the items menu.
Then outside of the menu, press Q, and the favorite list appears on the left, then scroll over an item and press a number.
now that item is assigned a numer hot key.

You first set items to the favorites menu, highlight an item and hit f. A small mark appears next to it. Exit the main item menu and hit q to bring up favorites menu. Highlight what you want hotkeyed and hit a number 1-9
