21 hours and still not 1 finishing kill animation

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 10:12 pm

I have been playing now for 21 hours and have yet to have one of the awesome finishing kill animations that I was so looking forward to. Can someone please help me figure out what the problem is? Love the game but am severely disappointed with this.

I believe they only apply to melee attacks. Ive gotten plenty of them, specifically the animation from cutting enemies throats from behind with a dagger when sneaking up to them. 12 or 15 times damage, cant remember, but it only does it when its an assured kill.

I use a war axe most of the time and finishers are quite common.
Many in 1st person view though. Not as cool as seem them in 3rd
person view.

Mine increased significantly when I leveled up and increased one-handed enough to add the corresponding perks (check the descriptions on the perk tree for one handed).
I seem to get them all the time now - decapitation happens quite often it seems.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if my game was that way. The finishers take away control in a way I just can't tolerate in my PC games :/

And most of them end up looking ugly anyway, with the ragdoll clipping into things or flopping around unrealistically.

I play an archer for the simple fact that they have no kill animations.

This is odd as i get finishers very often, i think it happens if you do an overkill, for instance if the enemy has very low health and you activate a power attack. Of course it helps if you have put perk points into your weapon of choice so it does more damage.

Hello,

I had this problem early in the game as i was using the left hand for my weapon and right hand for spells...then i switched hands and i get kill moves regularly now. I guess it only works if u have a weapon in the right hand as if that was the default setting. Hope this helps.

You can also change the regularity of the killmoves via console:
type "set killmoverandom to X" without the ", x being any value from 1-100. with this value on 100, i obviously get quite alot of finishers. Also, i've noticed that finishers seem to happen either as a counter attack (e.g. when your enemy is really close to attacking, but it's hard to do by watching them) or if you sprint and attack. both only works if the enemy is on low health.

As others have said...they only apply to melee weapons, and then only if they're equipped in the right hand. No left-handed finishing moves for us. Possibly as part of Bethesda's continuing conspiracy to annoy the heck out of lefties like me. :P

I had the same problem--never saw a single finishing move--until I finally threw up my hands and swapped my character's weapon into her right hand.

You might also notice that you can't poison weapons if they're equipped in the left hand; the game stubbornly insists you haven't got a weapon equipped. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/630730982034873860/7C8A48E3914A5DE51B175DCE37616D30839FED7D/

Standing power attacks seem to have a much higher chance of triggering them.

The hardest ones to trigger are the unarmed ones.

The worst are the dragon kill animations since I have yet to successfully get one where the physics engine didn't just make my character float off to the side of the dragon's head so I ended up "mounting" the air next to the dragon's head and stabbing downwards at nothing.

~Show KillMove in your console should return a 1 unless a mod is overriding that global. If KillMove == 1, the death blows should be happening for the last foe standing, but only periodically.

Make sure you are not out of Stamina. Finishers do not happen when you are out of Stamina.

This guy is right - it doesnt seem to work if you use the sword in the left hand. Took me 20+ levels to realise it.

Yes the solution is in your hands. Bethesda has told us over and over how cool that ambidextry thing would be but it actually doesn't really work. Yes you can have two weapons but your left hand is like a "bad" hand when you're wielding only one weapon (no finish, no poison as stated ealier). It also took me 20 levels to figure this out...

Ahhhh. I do this exact thing (I'm a lefty). I guess I'll swap and see.

Many Thanks.

Thanks for the tip! I would love to increase the regularity of the kill animations, especially throat slashings! Any idea what the default x value is though?

From another Thread:

[...]Default is 50 for killmoves and 40 for decapitations, meaning you have a 50% chance to trigger a killmove and a 40% chance for this killmove to be a decap.I made a small plugin for myself with TESSnip upping those values to 75 and 50, as I'm not sure whether or not changing it via console will store it in the savegame.

Few notes I've found:

- Magic and bows have no finishing animations.
- If an enchantment or poison is responsible for the fatality no animation will proc (An enchanted weapon can still kill, as long as the damage is sourced from the weapon itself. And not the enchantment proc that follows)
- Dual attacks and power attacks do not appear to proc animations, decpitation notwithstanding
- Dual sneak attacks do not proc animations (Right hand sneak attack almost always results in a throat slit animation done from behind)
- Attacks from the offhand rarely proc animations.
