I'm at 34 hours, level 21

Am I going to slow/too fast? I haven't even climbed the 7000 steps yet. I rather explore and take care of the side quest and roleplay.

I am probably two or three missions ahead of you in the main story, and I just hit the level cap yesterday. Things are working out pretty well for me. :D That answer your question?

I'm at 29 hours and my character is level 25.

That's what's great about TES - play at your own speed, do what you want to do.

I'm very happy not to load my game and have to start the reputation grind of WoW - almost 5 years in that game plus 7 months Rift.

I do a lot of dungeons in this game - enjoy every minute of it. I don't have to get 5 players to do a dungeon, so I'm healer, tank, dps all in one lol.

There's no too slow/fast in games like this, play at your own pace. Enjoy the game the way you want to.

I didn't go to to Whiterun Jarl untill I was lvl 50.

*shrug*

It's kind of sad today's players need to be told how they should play, with all the linear crap and whatnot. Choose your own pace.

There is no right pace. After 40 hours I was level 41, after 90 hours I'm level 49. It really doesn't matter how fast or slow you go.

Alright. I think I'm going to climb the steps now, then keep myself busy with other stuff until I reach 100 hours.

I'm already Arch-mage, did about 20 side quests(cleared all Whiterun and Winterhold ones), 3 daedric quests. 60 misc objectives. I'm still only level 16.

Earlier this week I was at the same numbers. Lvl20 at 48 hours played. This week I decided to level a few skills a bit quicker. I started using a shield, and wanted a bit better block. So I went out, found some mudcrabs. And let them hit my shield. Leveling went a lot quicker then. I also decided to use a trainer. I want to make my own potions, I'm starting to run out of them during the harder fights. But when I made some, they were not very good. So I decided to buy 5 alchemy training every level. These 2 changes made me level a lot quicker (less hours per level). I went from 20 to 25 in a few hours. Right now I am back to slower leveling. Lvl28 at 58 hours. Having great fun. You can play a game only once for the first time. So better make sure you enjoy that first run.

I don't think you are, personally I think I'm close to 40 hours and I'm level 21 as well.

People that "exploit" professions will level much faster though.

That's surprising ... are you using a conjuration-heavy build? I'm trying to figure out how you can avoid levelling faster than that with any build where you hit, sneak or get hit.

As for o/p ... I agree with everyone who says that there is no best speed to level. Just as long as you don't try to max Pickpocketing and Speechcraft before questing, you should be fine.

I'm at 49 hours, level 28, and haven't climbed the steps yet. On a previous character I think I climbed the steps around 20 hours in and my level was less than 20. So...all depends on your character and the roleplay.

Not exactly, but I have 3 perks in conjuration. Here's my current perks - http://skyrimcalculator.com/#14581
I started with Illusion-heavy character in mind, but found it hard to level Illusion quickly. So as of now I ended up with destruction @55, roughly 20 points ahead of its closest rivals. Ironically enough, enchanting comes second with value around 40, even though I mostly learned effects by disenchatning up to now, never actually using crafted items.

Level 37, with 98 hours in. Working with 1 character. 97 one handed, 94 block, 89 heavy armour, 80 smithing, 43 archery, lockpicking/sneak ~ 26. 450 health, 100 magikca, 110 stamina. (patch 1.1)

I am about 1/4 done with the main quest I think. Maybe 1/3 through the war on Imperial side. Done multiple side quest, changed residences from Markarth to Solitude due to the completing the Markarth questline and not liking the social/political system there.

The first 20 levels come quickly, after that it slows down nicely, at least, it did for me.

I'm at about 140 hours and level 43. I've only done enough of the main quest to learn my first shouts so I could learn new ones from word walls in my adventures. I haven't touched the war on either side yet.

The speed you level at is unimportant.
The amount of fun your are having doing so is.

If you are having fun, who cares how fast you level. Some people get a kick out of 'beating the game' by leveling fast, some people enjoy taking their time and exploring. None are wrong. Thats the joy of TES, do what you want, at the speed you want.

I've averaged about 40 hours on each of my two characters (one fighter and one serious mage) and both are under level 25. I've done the Greybeard's quest on both but haven't fetched the horn of Windcaller on either of them. There is SO much to see and do in this game you don't have to ever get board. However, to adjust your leveling speed you can do the following:

1) Training up that skill you seldom use like Pickpocket. For fighters and 'pure' mages, this will bump your level a tad but not too much and the skill can be used or ignored later.

2) Only craft stuff you intend to use or sell. Don't just craft 'til you drop. A high forging skill might not only give you access to game-breaking equipment too soon but might raise your level too high too fast.

3) Alchemy isn't as bad as forging because potions are one-use items. However too much specialization breeds weakness. An Alchemy skill of 100 with the rest of your skills at 20 makes for a rough fight later on.

Play at your own pace and see the sights. I never play but that I look around and see wonders or have surprising plot threads.
