So far the housing is ok..
Whiterun is my favorite house so far..
Riverside- I would like a beginner shack here. So I can explore the beauty of Skyrim before beginning the main quest.
Solitude -lots of static crates that look like storage but are not useful.. They should be actual storage.. Not just taking up space
Markarth - NO way I'm living in the haunted poltergeist house! -Would like a mod like "Owned" in FO:3 for the person that must be killed in Markarth.
That's all I've seen so far..
Also: I don't want to be "Thane" I could care less about being some sort of court consort.. Hanger on.. I would just like to buy the houses.. Without all those attachments...
Thanks

Definition of THANE
1
: a free retainer of an Anglo-Saxon lord; especially : one resembling a feudal baron by holding lands of and performing military service for the king
I’m sure about an hour after the CK comes out there will be house mods hitting the Nexus, but I certainly understand how frustrating it is waiting as I’m feeling it too.
Re: Proudspire Manor, I was simply dumbfounded that whoever did that interior didn’t put any real, usable and sensible storage down in the basemant. Everything was cluttered nicely, but not ONE container in the areas you need them most was absurd. (I usually lavish heaps of praise to the level designers, but this one totally dropped the ball.) And I agree, they put a BUNCH of useless static crates, you’d think they would at least put in one or two usable ones, lol. They HAVE to know that people need a central place to store their gear logically.
Anyway, as soon as the CK comes out I will be adding storage to Proudspire as well as Breezehome in Whiterun, and I’ll take a look at all the other vanilla houses as well. I’m also going to add “safe” storage in various locations such as Riverwood, and also add safe storage to all of the Inns. It’s absurd that you can rent a room for the night but cannot put anything in any containers in the Inns. I spend quite a few nights in the various Inns as my player is out adventuring to this is essential for me in terms of role playing.
BTW, it would be very easy to mod in a bypass to the thane quests for the houses. You could just hide the key somewhere safe, and script an activator or item to pick up to enable/disable all the clutter inside when you activate it or pick it up. I could probably work that up for you in less than an hour (per house, maybe less) if everything is setup like it was in Fallout 3 & New Vegas.
Also, I’m going to make a quest rebuild the dilapidated cabin down by Greymoor Fort which you will not have to be Thane to purchase and rebuild. See this thread:
