Your fellow wastelanders stand back in awe as you zoom on by. The anti-grav boosters underneath your Corvega Trailblazer fill the air with the smell of ozone and success. You've acquired one of the Old World's greatest treasures, and will use it to conquer the new one. The Hoverboard is yours.

This mod adds a hoverboard vehicle to the game. With it, you can move much faster and easier than just by running, and hover across bodies of water and annoying invisible walls. The board is obtained through a quest, and there is more than one way to get it. The quest can be found inside the small shack near the big cross near Goodsprings. (Yangtze Memorial)

The Hoverboard is a weapon item, so you can hotkey it. When you wield the item (press R), you will begin hovering. To steer, move the mouse in the direction you want to go. To stop hovering, holster the weapon (press R again). You cannot use the Hoverboard indoors, and you cannot use any other weapons or the PipBoy while hovering.

Hovering uphill is slower that going downhill or on flat ground. Try to stick to surfaces like water, roads and railway tracks, and avoid driving into rocks. Driving into buildings and on top of rocks should be safe, and the rollercoaster in Primm works like a charm.

The Hoverboard runs on Fission Batteries. Each battery will give you around 20 real-time minutes of hovering. You will receive warnings as the board starts to run out of power. To refuel it, you can wait until it runs out of power, or do it from the Hoverboard menu.

The Hoverboard menu is accessed by right clicking the board in your inventory, and then exiting the Pip-Boy. From here you can refuel the board, and install/change upgrades when I add those.

Taking damage while on the board may throw you off it. The damage you can take is based on your Agility and Perception, and the chance to get thrown off is affected by your Luck.

Caveats:
DO NOT OPEN DOORS WHILE ON THE BOARD! This may get you permanently stuck, or even crash the game.

This mod alters the GSAbandonedShack cell.

Avoid hovering into large rocks with the board, you may get stuck inside them. If you do get stuck: Get off the board, type tcl in console, move out of the rock, and tcl again. Things like buildings, bridges and trees should be safe.

Sometimes the collision detection seems to drop out completely. Try exiting the game completely and then reloading a previous save.

On rare occasions while hovering, the board will suddenly float motionless in the air with you standing on the ground beside it. Moving near the board or re-wielding the Hoverboard weapon will put you back on it.

Dying while on the board looks weird, and may cause collision to fail on subsequent reloads.

Driving near water may occasionally disable the propulsion trail. Quickloading fixes this.

If one of your followers gets a kill and it triggers a VATS cinematic sequence, you will keep hovering while it plays, which might not always be good.

Coming in future versions:
The ability to find and install upgrades to acceleration, different types of fuel, stealth mode, etc.
Abilities like Jump, nitrous boost, etc.

Credits:
Killerbees did the board model, initial texturing and importing it into .nif format.
Scorpio9 did the cool inventory image.
Nekhanimal did the scripting, dialogue and further texturing.

I'll have to try this out. Might be the best fast travel alternative yet.

looks quite well working :), and all that without NVSE :) gratz!

but for everybodies eyes health sake change that shadow rainbow whatever thing beneath the board lol, its simply put ugly, rather add a glowing effect to the edges or the bottom of the board and put a "normal" shadow beneath

Yeah, i posted on the Newvegasnexus in the comments for this mod, i think a light blue transparent glow would be cool :) (but thats just my opinion, and id rather have the black one than no hoverboard lol)

First person works, as well?

Either way I'll grab this as soon as I get to school tomorrow. (Free WiFi...drool...) The month within release and we already have a working vehicle! Amazing.

Agreed, the shader is fugly, though scientifically accurate with what would happen if the universe were to expand in a small area. Then again, Fallout 3 science runs on plenty of Balonium and Unbelievium, so I might as well make it into some pretty blue sparks. It'd look nice as a weapon effect, though. I'll change it to something more pleasing in an update.

My next project will be a suit of power armor that will enable you to accelerate to quite fast speeds similar to how the board works, and with which you can do huge, rocket-assisted jumps.

Very nice!

A shame about the ugly black blob, but that'll be changed I see.
But apart from that, an excellent job! Thank you very much!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be playing Tony Hawk New Vegas Edition :P

How hard would it be to get rid of the "propulsion" look all-together and just have a subtle dust/dirt spray? I imagine it would look a lot better; although anything would look better then the current thing. In any event, very cool - I look forward to the updates.

Super cool idea! While I do mirror what others have said about the black propulsion blob, this looks fantastic!

This is looking as awesome as always!

I do have to agree about that... black-vortex-of-doom-bubble that seemingly keeps the thing elevated up off of the ground being... unsightly... but otherwise, there's not much about this mod not to like! I'm actually surprised that it's been bumped over to New Vegas so quickly.

I'm gonna have to try it out now, and get myself stuck in some rocks!

Og vi er i gang:

Changes in v1.1
Fission Batteries now last for 20 minutes.
Cleaned up some of Aslak's dialogue.
You no longer have to do anything while waiting for the Hoverboard to be repaired
The Hoverboard can no longer be dropped.
The Hoverboard no longer uses a self-contained orbiflux field by hyper-stimulated resonance of state-4 aggregate particles as its propulsion system. Instead, it runs on pure funk.

Check out the new video!

Just been playing with it for an hour or so. This is so amazing! And it works on water too!
I wish there was a way to shoot from my board. And I wish my companions could have one too, so we could be the post-apocalyptic Hell's Angels.

Great job!

Screw it, I'm gonna go ahead and try to give the board to companions as well. It'll be buggy as all hell, and they'll probably look like they're running while on the board, but that Hell's Angels picture is just too sweet to let go. If only they'd stop trafficking their dope in MY neighborhood...

Guns on the board... I don't know. Right now the player gets the slanted stance because the hoverboard is technically an invisible melee weapon. Being able to equip some other weapon while on the board would mean you'd lose that stance, which wouldn't look as good, and I'd have to find some other way to activate the board than just unholstering it, which wouldn't be as convenient as hotkeying it, and this would make the mod require people to download the script extender, which is still in beta and might cause problems. Besides, it would make stuff kind of unbalanced since you'd then be able to take out any creature just with hit n run tactics. Then again, you can always just get to a tall rock and pop out the Incinerator, so I don't know. But I think I'll rather focus on making the board more useful as a vehicle.

And hey, we now have an INVENTORY IMAGE, thanks to Scorpio9! There are some new pictures on the Nexus, too.

Changes in v1.2
The camera should no longer be annoying when zoomed out in third person.
Remaining power messages stay on screen a little longer.
The board now has an inventory image, thanks to Scorpio9!

Changes in v1.4
HUGE upgrades in the various algorithms:

The board is slightly faster, and moves much smoother on level ground or downhill.

The board is less prone to falling through static objects. You can now ride the entire Primm rollercoaster without getting off the board.

Wall collision feels less like an invisible hand pulling you away, and more like you actually hit something, i.e. you will bounce off in another direction.

You can now refuel the board by right clicking it in your inventory. Note that this will disable your hotkey if you have the board hotkeyed.
