how annoying are dragons

Post » Sat Oct 27, 2012 3:06 am

I have been holding off on triggering the dragons because I heard they are annoying.

I am playing a level 35 one-handed with sword. No magic or archery.

How common are dragon attacks? I don't fast travel if that helps.

Thanks.

I believe they are random. I've went days without them happening. On the other side, I've experienced one in a town, and then another right outside of it.

I can't get enough of them. A good source of material for making my dragon armor.

It just depends on your game. I do not encounter many dragons unless I fast travel a lot.

They are not annoying either, they're very entertaining...

If you don't fast travel you'll be more than okay.

The attacks don't seem that common to me. In about 20 levels since triggering the dragons I've experienced maybe 6-8 random dragon attacks, and I don't fast travel.

I did not encounter very many when I played the main quest. During that game (90-100 hours) I fought about 10 random, non-scripted Dragons.

I never fast traveled on that character however. I have heard that fast traveling increases the chance of encountering them.

Thanks for all the input. I think I will trigger the dragons but make the MQ the final thing I do in Skyrim.

My current character has more shouts requiring unlocking than I've had dragons.

i dont do the main quest on any of my new characters because im tired of them killing everybody in an already underpopulated skyrim.

i mean im fine with them in the wild but when they start killing quest givers it gets on my nerves.
i wish NPC would just hide indoors when they see a dragon rather than trying to kill it; same thing with the vampires in the cities i wish they would just attack the guards.

Or atleast make merchants and quest givers unkillable by anyone other than the player

Its completly random. Their not too annoying but the only problem is when they are eating the NPC's or when they decide to spawn when you are low on heath.

It's definetily annoying. For me, fast or slow travel doesn't affect it. Fact is, at level 73 I find that half the time I get hit by TWO dragons at once. That can be slightly tricky.

Still nothing better than Revered. No Legendary yet. Disappointing.

About 10x less annoying than Oblivion Gates.

I can deal with fighting a dragon for 2-3 minutes.

Not much in my game at this moment. Only encounter 3 after 25 hours. OP have you ever played Marrowind? Those Cliff ricers.

I didn't even think about them killing essential npc's. That seems like a huge flaw in the game.

It really doesn't happen often, especially since you don't fast travel. I've had two dragon attacks in cities in over 1,000 hours of playing and both times I had fast travelled to the stable and entered the city right after: the dragon spawned outside but "followed" me inside the city like a NPC can follow you when you enter a building and he's talking to you.

They can happen in smaller settlements (Riverwood, Winterhold, etc.) but again, you not fast travelling will reduce the probability greatly.

EDIT: They don't kill essential NPCs, only non-essentials.

i mean it makes sense that a dragon can kill villagers but it ticks me off i have to keep reloading old saves because they keep killing some of the minor quest givers
if you want to know who all they can kill its simple if you can kill them then the dragon or vampires can kill them

I'm already defending villages from bandit attacks, vampires and shiz. I don't need dragons too.

They rarely show up against me, and after I complete the MQ, most of the ones I do find are passive and won't attack me anyway.
