How are you going to build your house?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:17 pm

Are you one of the people who has hundreds of thousands of gold just waiting to be spent on buying supplies, or would you rather go out and mine, smelt, chop down trees and collect everything else needed to build your home?

Personally I'll be collecting all of the resources myself. May sound stupid seeing as how its just a game, but it'll make the house feel more like my home if Im building it myself.

I might do a little of both. I have plenty of extra septims that I've been looking to spend but I also want to find and create my own supplies.

I only have done two playthroughs thus far and both characters have alot of money so my first time going through this dlc I will buy most supplies. On new playthroughs I will gather and collect everything. I am actually looking forward to that as it adds usefulness to woodchopping and the grain mills. Prior to adding arrow crafting wood chopping, even though I liked the addition, didnt seem to be very useful other then to make a few bucks.

On new playthroughs it will add the most rpg value for me.

I'm going to invest every single coins I have and if I ran out of coin, I do some jobs but I'm not going to do mining for 3 hours.

Collect everything at first. Raise it with my own two hands.

Eventually, I expect I'll get too lazy to collect, so I'll buy using my 50,000 reserve Septims.

Of course, given that I have the advantage of playing on PC, I'll know what materials I need beforehand, so I can gather things like ore and wood.

Tiberius doesn't use a purse. He'd be weighed down by his 150,000 septims. I expect he could pay for a castle with that. Or maybe buy Winterhold, kick out the jarl, and turn the whole area into a ski resort. Too bad you can't do that in Hearthfire... ;)

Well, my character is going to 'retire' for a while, so he will be building it himself - one last job before he goes.

I'm building myself a log manor in the snowy wastes of The Pale. It will be a labour of love so I'll gather all resources on my own and build and place them myself. Only then will I be able to fully enjoy my own home.

150,000.. Hell you could buy Skyrim for that.. Maven Blackbriar is said to be rich but all she actually has is 9 septims in her pocket and a nice necklace..

I have about 200,000 coin. Hope it's not too expensive to build a place.

I've just started a new character so I'm hoping I'm not too rich by the time it comes out on PS3, to encourage me to go out and gather the materials myself.

I've already started buying up all the ingots at the blacksmith shops. I know I'm going to need lots of iron, probably a lot of steel too.

I have 100,000+ septims, A LOT of Dragon Bones and Scales lying around and a good speech level. Septims shouldn't be an issue.

(cost 1,000,0000 for a breezehome sized house) :swear:

I think everyone is over-stating how complex house building is going to be. You're going to have the same layout as everyone else once you upgrade the entire house. Everyone's house is going to look the same if you put all the upgrades in it, with the furniture. You're not going to able to pick and choose where you put your furniture.

And, I can imagine its not going to be over expensive. Those of you wishing to spend that multitude of gold you have are going to be sorely disappointed. I would bet 100,000 gold for the house, fully upgraded, buying all the materials and such. No more then that.

...buzzkill, man

I'm going to build mine out of glass in the traditional Altmer style of jeweled beetle wing structures that refract light into rainbows all around my house.

It's gonna be awesome.

Or a house made from skulls!! Now that's a good reason to shake of the cobwebs and start playing with Autodesk and Gmax again.

Oh hells yeah, a house made of cat and lizard skulls would be pretty beast. Maybe have a couple of dragon skulls for doorways, too. And then inside my butler is going to be an alcoholic skeleton.

hmmm...my big burly Redguard is going to collect and build everything himself (he's going into temporary retirement) My female Breton will more than likely buy or steal it all. I get lazy the second time around doing things
