How Bethesda want to [censored] with the old school TES fans

Post » Sat Aug 04, 2012 12:42 am

  • Arena out for PC.
  • Daggerfall out for PC.
  • Redguard out for PC.
  • Battlespire out for PC.
  • Morrowind out for PC, Xbox 360.
  • Oblivioun out for PC, Xbox 360, PS3.
  • Skyrim out for PC, Xbox 360, PS3.
Now look at this when The Elder Scrolls came out on more platforms then one.

Morrowind - First person view and third person view.

* Bloodmoon for Morrowind and now you can become a werewolf in first person view and third person view.

Oblivion -First person view and third person view.

* You can now ride a horse in first person view and third person view.

Skyrim - First person view and third person view.

* You can't ride a horse in first person view but you can ride in third person view.

* You can't become a werewolf in first person view but you can in third person view.

Now tell me, how is this not moving backwards?

How is this not saying [censored] you old school TES fans?

How is this not pampering those who do play in third person view while ignoring those who play in first person view?

How is this moving forward, giving everyone the tool and ability to play the game HOW THEY LIKE IT as Todd said himself.

How hard can it be to create first person view that was already there in the previous TES games?

Clearly it is ridiculous for us to expect a game to properly evolve and improve upon its predecessors.

Your OP basically just proved there is no correlation between the amount of platforms and the ability to play in certain views. Also, I don't see how views are really [censored] with "old-school fans" more than other things.

Those two things were just poor design choices. I wish we could go in first person for both werewolves and horse riding, but it didn't happen. I have a feeling it was because of the deadline. This mistake will hopefully be something they learn was a mistake. Mounted combat was in Daggerfall, but it wasn't until the recent patches that it was back in the series.

The focus is definitely shifting towards third-person view, which I don't really like. Both first-person and third-person perspectives should get equal attention.

Don't even get me started on some of the lore Bethesda removed to please the little children who want everything easy. Man, if I had a foot for every butt I feel like kicking . . .

Correct, it's ridiculous.

It's clear that Bethesda had the design goal in their mind that first person view for werewolf is a bad idea and first person view for riding a horse would also be a bad idea because then people would have the ability to play in first person view when they just want you to look at the horse and the werewolf insted of playing the game as you want to play it.

They should implement 1st person in a patch.

I'm moving this thread to TES General as it is more about the Series than Skyrim.

That's not correct as it's not about the serious. series.

It's Skyrim that was the first game in the series that had this problem.
And it's Skyrim that has the problem that somebody need to go and fix, I mean.

You can invest time in creating mounted combat for a patch.
But you can't invest time in creating simple first person view for werewolf, vampire lord, horse riding?

-Snip-

It is about how Skyrim relates to the rest of the series, therefore it is about Skyrim and the series. Also PM me if you wish to discuss this further.

What does Xbox and PS3 have to do with things being forced third-person view? Xbox had Oblivion and Morrowind and it didn't force a third-person view. All though, I agree with your point.
