It is great but I hare finding red plants...

The one thing I don't get is, how did giants get in there?

Anybody else fought the dragon Vulthuryol in Blackreach?

That one took me by surprise wasn't expect to fight a Elder Dragon underground.

Mother Fu ...

Well, thanks to you I'm expecting it now.

I like it, it's a nice refreshing area compared to the rest of the game, but I must be one of the few who is not completely amazed and praising beth for it.

Lore evolves as the story / game does.
Lore evolves but changes so dramatic are a sign of poor continuity. I can hardly imagine those large ruins being totally unknown, especially when they're on a side of a mountain clearly visible from any distance.

Priori to the coming of men. There were several cultures of elves in Tamriel. The Ayelids were in Cyrodil, the nord battled with the so called Snow Elves of whom the Falmer are but a tragic and sad legacy.

They need not have to look like the elves in Oblivion. Not to mention that all those dwarven ruins are very similar one to another and hardly original.

Skyrim is lacking in many areas but gameworld design is not one of them. Blackreach reminded me alot of that mod for Oblivion that added a huge underground complex (also with giant mushrooms) and had Drow in it. I am glad that they took some ideas from it.

Frostcrag Reborn. Yep, that's what Blackreach reminded me of too.

Well, you can find one there if you try.

I've been thinking of a big crazy project involving Blackreach. I've got more gold than I could possible spend on suicidal horses or sweet rolls for Lydia. So I think I'll just go around buying out every merchant of their stock and looting absolutely everything from dungeons, right down to the last linen scrap.

Lydia, or "She Who Is Sworn To Carry My Burdens" will haul all of this treasure to some suitable great lift, one that opens directly into Blackreach. There we'll distribute everything into appropriate piles. That one for steel helmets, this one for horker tusks, that one over there for cabbages, and so forth and so fifth. Eventually Blackreach will be filled.

My God, it will be beautiful!

Yeah, that's exactly what Blackreach reminded me of. I'm thinking the devs actually got the inspiration for Blackreach from that mod. Here's a video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe1LIOb6cAE

Frostcrag Tower was one of Bethesda's dlcs. It was also a dwemer building, and you can see they continued with that same style for Skyrim.
Another DLC Orrery also resembles things you see in Skyrim.

I used to criticize a lot of things in Skyrim, but then I took an arro - I mean, walked into Blackreach. Holy crap. It's simply amazing. The concept of an underground city, the size alone (I couldn't finish exploring it in like 2 hours), the details present. There's that feeling you get with Skyrim that every rock is different from the other, and it would have been easy for them to just make a huge circular dome and put generic Dwemer buildings in it, but you walk in and you can barely see up to half the city's extension.

I really have to take my hat off to Bethesda. Blackreach alone didn't change my mind, but going there allowed me to realize of how vast the game is, it made me see how every mountain is difference from the other. I can live with hearing NPCs say always one of the same 2 things, with Guild members treating their leader like crap, with the fact that there's a dragon skeleton breakdancing in front of the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary (that's actually a bug I can very much live with ^^) because I realize the game is bigger than I can see. It's the difference between being in a large field and being in a field so large you don't even have an idea of how far it goes.

Exactly.

Welcome to Skyrim.

Exactly, once you realize how big this game is you can really see how blessed we are. In no way is this game perfect and there are a few miscues here and there, but my god, how detailed it is for the size.

I love Bethesda for all of the things like Blackreach that they packed into this game. Even though Skyrim does have its flaws, they are far outweighed by the sheer magnitude and beauty of the game.

I always said that I could spend four or five years exploring Oblivion and still never find everything that there is to find (and I did :P), but this statement is even more true of Skyrim. I could see myself playing Skyrim six years from now and suddenly finding something, some little easter egg or minor back story, that I never noticed before. Everytime I fire up Skyrim, I am finding something new that fills me with awe and presents the game in the same light as the first time I ever fired it up.

Love you Bethesda, and I love this game!

P.S. Bethesda: Since you stole it with this game's release, you can just keep my life. I wasn't doing much more than playing your games and Halo anyways, so you guys can just keep it. I hope you treat it better than I did... it deserves more. ;)

Wow i don't even know that exist, could you tell me where to get quests that are linked with Blackreach ?

SPOILER about the dragon inside the Blackreach:
Using the Unrelenting Force shout on the large orange globe hanging above the Silent City will summon http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Vulthuryol, a dragon, to attack you

There is a Dwarven Ruin in between Dawnstar and Winterhold (I believe that's where it is...) that leads into Blackreach after a hefty yet playful romp through a Falmer Lair. On the way, you will find several lifts that lead you back to the surface, but ones that can only be unlocked once you find them when you are down below.

There are a couple of Quests that take you into Blackreach, but I find it more fun to simply explore it with no active Quest. Just go find it (I believe the Ruin is called Mzinchalft... but don't take that as scripture), you'll be very happy that you did.

THANK YOU!

I just read about Blackreach on SkyrimWiki and oh my god its so freakin large with so many ultra long quests (at least 3),
it is very important that beth gives us so vast game.
I cant wait for mods like Craftybits or similar after CK is released.
Im playing Skyrim from november and hear about Blackreach for the first time.
Its great. Just like quest with talking dog near Falkreath. There are so many great quests showing up from nowhere as we play.

I like that in many quest the outcome is dependent for example if we are or not in one or second guild or quests have few ways to complete them.

Here you go.... Blackreach without the darkness....

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7033/6704938739_9015ab796a_o.jpg

(I think it looks better than it does originally, but there needs to be shadows still... Not sure what caused this glitch when I entered it).

Interesting to see Blackreach all illuminated! Still looks cool, but I prefer the darkness. It makes the place so much more mysterious!

But yea, Blackreach has been my favorite place, ever since I first laid eyes on it. It definitely shows the creativity of the Bethesda team and yes, I also think that we can forgive some of the glitches, after seeing this amazing place. Plus, all HUGE games come with bugs. I mean they can't test every little thing.

Bethesda cared greatly about all the details to make this world seem alive. After playing the game for months now, on my 3rd character, I still stumble upon places I've never seen! It is expansive, it is vast, yet the little things are all in place. Sure, there are things that annoy me (like the guards and how they know everything about me lol If a guard says "Hail Sithis" to me one more time, I will have to kill him, because he knows my secret...) hehe

Well, thanks to you I'm expecting it now.

Spoiler
The dragon isn't going to show if you just wander around.  I explored Blackreach (reasonably) thoroughly and never ran into it.  I only found it after reading spoilers.

what's so "awesome" in blackreach? yeah, its big, so? there's almost nothing to do in it, except the main quest and a gathering side quest, I feel like they wasted this one too...

Yeah, Frostcrag Spire was a Bethesda DLC for Oblivion, but Frostcrag Reborn was a modded version of Frostcrag Spire that made it much more interesting. That link is what the mod added. There's a long ass spiral stairway that leads down to a gargantuan cavern that holds a lost Ayleid city.

You appear to be the kind of a person who can't look at a painting for 5 minutes. There's nothing wrong with that, it's probably a more efficient way of playing/living, but some of us like to take out time to appreciate things. It's the same when someone rides a horse all the way from Markarth to Riften, when they could fast travel in a few seconds. And no, Blackreach isn't just huge, like I said they could have created a hole much larger than that, it's the incredible immersion, the details in it, the fact that they didn't simply create all buildings alike. Skyrim just makes me believe that someone took a very long time to make sure these things resembled reality as much as possible.

I'm going to search for simple mods for Blackreach, not whole makeovers, just see if I can find something to make it more fun.

Also I live the idea of using Skyrim as a vault for stuff, please post pics!

Blackreach was huge and beautiful, but seemed empty and unfinished from a content perspective. Sure there was the quest that brought you down there in the first place, and a gathering quest that gave you a reason to explore every inch, but there could have been so much more and still have kept the abandoned city theme going.

Perhaps Blackreach content was another casualty of the 11/11/11 hard deadline.

Has plenty of content I say. so much loot it took me 3 trips to sell everything of worth. Would like to have some sort of dwemer mystery quest in there.
