how to calculate weapon dps

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 11:29 am

I'm a little confused as how to calculate actual raw dps from a weapon. They give you the weapon type (1 h sword, axe, mace, etc.) damage and weight. Logic dictates a lighter weapon will swing faster thus have a higher dps if it has the same damage as a heavier weapon, but I can't tell any speed increase with a 9 weight sword to a 12 weight sword.

I'd like to have this too. It was quite nice in Fallout: New Vegas that it told you the per (shot) damage as well as the DPS. That would be a *very* welcome addition in a patch. That said, it would probably have a negative impact on RP'ing, so maybe not.

Because DPS depends on how often you click the button etc. And wether you block or do powerattacks. DPS would be fairly useless and out of place in the game.

Weight doesn't affect the swing speed, only the weapon type does. So any one handed sword regardless of weight swings the same.

I don't think it's possible to accurately calculate the dps right now as the speed is not available, but you could do something like swing a weapon for 10 seconds, count how many swings you get, and calculate rough dps. You probably won't see much difference with weapons that have similar speeds/damage, but aside from somehow acquiring weapon speed from actual game data, that's the only thing I can think of.

However, as a previous poster said, dps won't really do much good for you unless you plan on standing in front of the enemy and hitting them until they die without dodging, blocking, etc.
