There's no way that I'm aware to do so. You have to join the thieves guild and sell it to a fence if you're trying to get rid of it.

Yes and can't you sell and buy back to remove the stolen tag? Or are you looking for another method?

A few ways

1) sell it to a fence and buy it back

2) reverse pickpoket it into a bandit (or realy anyone) kill them and take it. It will no longer be stolen.

Just sell it to a fence and buy it back. This will remove the stolen tag.

On pc, the console command 'setownership' will remove stolen tag. You have to target the item.

I stole Ysgramor's spoon, droped it and then the guy came over and was like "Here, you misplaced this." and just gave it to me!
