How can I overcome my hatred of DualShock?

Post » Mon Aug 19, 2013 5:23 am

Am I the only one who really hates the DualShock controller? I've had an Xbox 360 this generation, but so far the PlayStation 4 seems to arguably be the better option. However, I really despise the DualShock controller, to a point where it actively ruins every single game I try to play with it. What should I do? I like the PS4 console, but hate the controller. I like the Xbox One controller, but hate the console.

Find a gamer who prefers DualShock. Become friends with him. Get to know him, laugh and play, share life's ups and downs.

Then, one night when he is at his most vulnerable, steal his thumbs.

Once you start using the Playstation controller it isn't so bad. I prefer the the Xbox 360 controller overall but simply playing games on the PS3 allowed me to be more comfortable with the controller.

You dislike the configuration of the thumb-sticks, correct?

I would wait for third party controllers (google PS4 fusion controller) or until they confirm that wired XBOX 360/XBOX one controllers can be adapted to work with the console.

Note: Apparently the thumb-sticks on the PS4 controller are different from previous models.

Maybe it's the way I like to hold the controller? I like to hold controllers solidly in my palms and wrap my fingers around them. That doesn't quite work like that with the DualShock. This GIF is humorous, but also how I feel about the DualShock.

All you have to do is wrap your ring and pinky fingers around the handles. Use your middle fingers as support on the back. Then use your thumbs on the thumbsticks and face buttons and your index fingers on the shoulder buttons. Meanwhile, squeeze it between your palms.

I can't believe I actually just gave instructions on how to hold a controller...

The other option is to just wait for a third-party controller that has a shape you like more. You can probably even get a third-party PS3 controller and use it on the PS4, though I don't know what kind of interface the PS4 will use.

I guess I'll just settle for an Xbox One, or alternatively a PC. Keyboard and mouse beats them both anyway!

I know how to use the controller. I'm not stupid. I just don't like it.

Reminds me of those infomercials where people fail to do simple things like hold a knife. If that's how you feel about the controller, you're simply holding it wrong. Your palms don't go in front of the controller, they go behind it.

That was an exaggeration. What I was simply getting at was how the DualShock controller doesn't feel as natural or as comfortable after playing solely on the Xbox 360 pad for the last few years.

Personally I love the Dualshock. Well, maybe not love it, but I certainly feel more comfortable with it than either the Xbox one, or keyboard and mouse. Not because its a better design, because it simply isn't (looking at it objectively its the worst of the three options, by far) but only because its the only thing I'm used to. And when it comes to gaming controls, that counts for more than anything else.

It's interesting, I feel the opposite way. But, then, I've been using a PS controller since the PS1, and have never touched the XBox controller. The whole offset thumbstick thing seems like it would be incredibly uncomfortable. And the Dualshock just fits perfectly in my hands (I'm 6'2, ~215. Not a small dude).

Guess it's just all what you're used to.

The PS4 controller is significantly bigger than the PS3 and PS2 models. It supposedly fits more nicely into your hands. People have actually been praising the new design. I have experience with both controllers but I still prefer the 360 controller to the PS3 one. The PS4 controller, with its touchpad, looks like it could be interesting.

Ultimately it is your decision what you like, but the new dualshock controllers will be a bit bigger and sit more comfortably in your hands.

See, I disagree. I feel like the 360's an unnatural and huge ass controller. I guess it's all about what you're used to. I've been using the Dualshock since I was 15-16 with the PS2 (23 now), for me, the Dualshock is the 'natural' way to play games. It's how I held my handhelds, NES, Sega and N64 controllers,
