How can i run Skyrim smoother? Very HighUltra settings

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:31 am

Hey guys,

i don't really know much about computer so i hoped you guys could maby help me out. At this moment i'am playing skyrim on high settings (because after i played a game on high settings i don't want to go back to lower settings). But it doesn't run smoothly (as i would run on a console) and now i'am asking you guys what i should change on my computer to make it run smooth on high settings and maby ultra settings. So, these are my specs i checked on the program CPU-z. I don't know what everything means but i'am just going to list what i think could be important.

Name: AMD FX-8120

So what do you recommend to change to run skyrim smoothly ? When i bought this computer the guy who sold it to me said this was a good gaming computer and that should be able to run Skyrim on High settings without problems. However this isn't the case. So what should i change to run it on Ultra settings? Or very very high settings so i can put antialiasing on 4 samples and anisotropic filtering on 16 samples? Well thanks for reading and i hope i get an answer from you guys :) If i didn't list enough information about my computer just say than i will take a look if i can give you more info about it. :) Thanks anyways

And sorry for my bad english i did my best.

Unless you are playing on a very large screen I would suggest disabling antialising. If you max out your resolution you probably won't even notice the difference.

Also, I recommend going to www.skyrimnexus.com and search for SkyBoost mod. It's a mod that increases performance by optimizing the game code instead of decreasing graphics. I myself haven't tried it because I have no need for it, but I've heard only good things about it.

EDIT: Your computer is okay for the most part, but the graphics card is bottlenecking it.

The graphics card is the bottleneck. The 7450 is one of the weakest on the Southern Islands series (HD 7xxx). It is not imperative that you get a HD 7xxx series card, but you should aim for one with the last three digits being between 700-999 (exceptions apply).

What would be your budget in upgrading the graphics card?

I couldn't pull any information on your computer's model. You may require low-profile cards which would limit the number of upgrade options.

You didn't need Skyboost since patch 1.4. It is already implemented (and the author declared it dead)

It's WORSE than merely "one of the weakest". It is, in fact, the very bottom desktop offering available from AMD, being a renamed HD 6450.

In order to run High Quality settings, the recommended Radeon HD 4890 is the least powerful AMD card named, and a mere HD 6450 is less than 1/4 as powerful:
