how to change loot in treasure chests

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:40 am

just learning the creation kit.

I have placed 4 treasure chests, a few urns, and a few satchels in my dungeon.

the loot however is not what I want.

I want one of the chests to contain a unique item I created.

the other one I want to have certain books and a lot of gold in it.

I know you in the creation click you...

- right click
- edit
- edit base
- then right click new on the item list white area

after that I am lost.

Easier to:
  • Find a Chest that has some of the type of stuff that you want
  • DUPLICATE by right clicking
  • Make sure you rename the Duplicate
  • Edit the list of items that you see in the Item List (you can add your custom item here)
  • Remember a lot of what you see is levelled-lists
  • The PREVIEW CALCULATED RESULT Button (bottom center of form) lets you enter a level and by clicking it, will show you an example of what the chest will contain at whatever character level you input

Watch the first bit of this tutorial (just for the Container stuff, you don't need the rest), that will show you what to do

so basically I have to make a new duplicate everytime?

I duplicated draguar chest, renamed it and placed two in the dungeon. they have the exact same loot though.

so I have to make a new chest everytime?

What you make in the Object Window is a Base Object
When you drag a base object into your Render Window (Scene) you are creating an instance of that base object

So - unless you get into scripting - if you want different items in different chests then you need different base items

(so, yes)

Yes. Whether he is detailing the absolute best way of doing something is a question ... But I think a year down the line a lot of us will be laughing at how we coded stuff early on

His tutorials are easy to follow and he does get you started off accomplishing something, so - this early in CK-Life - they're well worth a look (as are others in the Sticky Thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343653-creation-kit-video-tutorials-merged/)
