How to change Lydia's Armor ?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:26 am

So, i hate that Steel armor she uses, but when i go to the "I want to trade soemthings with you" option, it doesn't appear the Steel Armor.. I wanted her to use fur armor, leatehr or forsworn..
i don't think that Steel looks good on a female.. But i don't know how to change it, how do i do that ? If it needs console commands, i'm ok with it.. Help ?

EDIT: "If it needs console commands, i'm ok with it.. Help ?"
What is the console command then ? Please. I can't seem to find on the Uesp Wiki.. Ir my eyes are too lazy, or it isn't there...

Put better armor on her. Anything better than steel armor, and she will switch. But she is a heavy armor user, so remember that. Give her som Dwemer or Steel Plate.

Playing on PC. I suppose they are targeting the npc then typing in console commands. Someone made Saadia (the redgaurd woman in hiding) a companion using console commands.

Realize she's a warrior-type minion, she guards you and will give her life for you. Switching her to a low-level armor means she'll be injured/die more often when taking on multiple enemies. Give her a 2H sword and a bow, and arrows. You can also give her a ring/amulet to increase her healther, armor, etc.

And, keep giving her better stuff. Write down the levels on her armor, weapons, etc., so when you pick up something better, you won't have to keep clicking on her and checking what she has. If you can't handle women in steel armor, maybe you need to get the bow trainer in Riverwood, he won't wear heavy armor.

Good luck.

I cant stand Lydia in heavy armor, guess i'll pick Faendel, or Aela, or Jenassa... someone with light armor.

Thanks.

Does she stand and walk in better animations ( arms straight, no bow-legged ) with your dragon armor? It is light armor, right?

in PC, no need to open inventory or even use additem command

just make a BAT using her PRID or just the plain commands and:

equipitem "whateverarmouryouwant"

that's it

change of cell? did she revert to steel armour? no prob, rerun the command

So Kharjo must be wearing some amazing steel plate armor because he will not remove it in exchange for anything I give him, including dragonplate. Just the torso. He'll upgrade any other piece, but he refuses to take off whatever that is.

This might work:

Open console, click on Lydia.
Use the console command showinventory to see what she has.
Use the console command removeitem XXXXXXXX n, where XXXXXXXX is the item ID, and n is how many she has (usually 1)
Then Lydia should be willing to equip what you give her.

However, your joy may be short lived because:
- The game will automatically re-equip Lydia with her default stuff at some point.
- If you remove all her default armor, she will receive a new complete set immediately

This technique may also be handy to periodically remove any extra copies of her default Hunting Bow, that seem to accumulate over time and reduce her available carrying capacity.

Jack up the defense rating (up to Legendary preferably) of whatever armor that is normally not as good as her steel armor using smithing. If you are lucky, she will switch to that. That is the console workaround for us PS3 and Box users
