Thoughts on the dominance?
Its dominated because parents let their 13 year old kids play it
Same here . I'm looking forward to this new CoD game cause it feels like something out of Tom Clancy's EndWar.
Mechanically it's no different than any other online shooter. The only difference is it's marketed well and caters to the lowest common denominator.
Same goes for Halo multiplayer. It doesn't do anything that Unreal Tournament didn't do years before it and better.
It's easy to grasp, and easy enough to do pretty well in it, so it holds people's attention.
i actually don't hate the game, I thought it was a lot of fun back when I played it. People bash it for not being realistic, but no shooter is, even the ones that try to be. So really, the choices for FPS games are games that embrace their non-realism like CoD and give an over the top experience, or a game that tries too hard to be realistic but doesn't get it right like ARMA.
It's a fun game as long as you go in expecting no story, lots of explosions, and massive amounts of unrealistic violence.
