How to disable head bob

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:06 pm

Does anyone know how to do it?

My wife has motion sickness.

I asked on the general forum but they suggested it would be better directed here.

I didn't think there was any "head bob", except perhaps while sprinting.

I expect it's some sort of 1st person animation, so I think if you could fid out which one and perhaps replace it with an empty animation you could disable that.

Alternately, it might be governed by a game setting, although I think that's quite unlikely.

Hopefully someone else more familiar with animation can give some more useful advice.

There were mods in Oblivion that removed the head bob, but without the CK it will be a challenge to do. In the mean time, have you tried changing the FOV to 90 or 95?

I would like to actually increase it. I liked S.T.A.L.K.E.R SOC had it.

^^^ This. I had motion sickness playing Skyrim until I changed the FOV to 90. Try the following:

Inside the game hit the ~ key to get the console
Then type: fov 90
Press enter

It saved me from not being able to play the game at all.

If you want the setting to be permanent add the following to Skyrim.ini

[Display]
fDefaultWorldFOV=

I think there's already an option either in the display options menu (I want to say it's near the bottom by the crosshair toggle) or in the intitial setup menu (if you're on PC) i'm away from my computer, so I can't find the exact place for you, but I'm pretty sure there's a simple way to toggle it off already built in.

I looked again and unfortunately there's no place in the settings to toggle it on or off. Some people like it and it doesn't make them nauseated so maybe ideally it would be a slider.

Actually we had already set the fov to 92, and although that helps a lot there is still the head bobbing causing motion sickness (albeit after a longer time than with the default fov). We also turned off mouse smoothing (called acceleration in the .ini file) which was the first thing that helped a lot, it stopped the screen from continuing to move for a short time after the mouse had stopped.

I worked all day on it and eventually found out how to do it with some copious hex editing. I uploaded a mod to Skyrim Nexus.
