how does paralyze work?

Is it worth it for my 1 handed warrior to invest perks into alteration in order to use the paralyze spell?

And how does it work? Does it stop working on higher level people or are people immune to it?

No I don't think so, though some enemies might be immune to it.

It would really depend on if you want to use magic or not really. I wouldn't do that myself, but that's me. Instead I would focus on the backwards power strike that has the chance to paralyze a target, but again that's just me, not everyone does that.

It pretty much does what it says, paralyzes a target for a short amount of time. I believe they always fall over and so you get a few extra swings in as they stand up. I use poisons that do the same and I find they really can turn a fight.

It works well, although I've often made the mistake of thinking a paralysed corpse is dead, only to have it attack me from behind when the paralysis wears off in a busy melee.

It doesn't have to be a spell, you can make a potion for arrows or blades, or enchant a weapon too.

Even end bosses can be paralysed.

Paralysis has always been my favourite spell in Elder Scrolls. Very helpful when you have more than one powerful foe attacking. Paralysis and Wall of Fire are a great combination.. for sadistic people like me..

It works on most organic matters, but not on Dwemer machines and spiritual beings.

get alteration just for paralysis may not be all that worth the investment. but alteration have some nice passive perks like resisiting and absorbing magic attacks, if that intress you go for it. but i think you need 75 alteration in order to get paralysis

(tbh i have no clue why they removed paralysis from illusion and put it in alteration)

Even end bosses can be paralyzed.

You mean end bosses in dungeons, right? I haven't tested throughly but I think dragons are immune to paralysis. Shot one with my bow recently (poisoned with paralysis potion) and just got the 'enemy has resisted paralysis' message. All other enemies can't seem to resist potion-based paralysis effects.

Alchemy-based paralysis then is the strongest. With spells (and enchanted weapons) enemies can the chance to resist. Poison of paralysis rules!
