How does STEALTH work?

Post » Fri Jan 25, 2013 1:08 am

I haven't followed all the devs Q&A's and I'm curious if there's any info about the stealth mechanics so far. Is it like single player TES, where the characters just bend their knees a little and look weird walking, or is it like World of Warcraft where the character is fully invisible to others until they attack? I'm also interested if we can use stealth to steal from npc's and other players.

If you don't have the answers then what type of stealth would you prefer?

I don't think I've read or heard anything relating to stealth, but I'm curious too. I'd assume it'd be like a toggable stealth mode which gives you this chameleon-like effect, the magnitude of it depending both on your own sneak skill and a sort of 'perception' skill (intelligence?) of other players. I've never played an MMO with a stealth system so I can't think of anything else that'd make sense.

I couldn't see the SPRPG style of stealth working in PvP, but outside and in PvE sure. I'll have to see how it works out in game first, here's to hoping I get a beta invite.

I hope it's like wow, permanent stealth when one vanishes. it's beyond cool to sneak past enemy lines and ambush them. Besides sneaking like in Skyrim would not only look ridiculous but also alert any enemy player that you're trying a stealth move on them. Even Guild Wars 2 has a (limited) invisibility time on stealth.

They said crouching was in, so guessing it's the bent knee weird thing going down for stealth.

Yeah I saw that in the gameplay video they released a while back, I don't know how that's gonna work in pvp.

I think if they copy the TES sneak mechanics it will be useless in pvp, too slow to get behind the opponent and stab him.

Pretty sure sneaking is like Oblivion and Skyrim, it even has the eye graphic.

Crouch and sneak is controlled by the c key.

Everyone will have access to sneaking and crouch but stealth i can see being class specific: ie Rogue/Ranger.

Maybe the player specialising in stealth will be able to get speed boosts for that skill.

Think you pretty much go invisible and become more visible under certain conditions, such as light or range. Guessing this since in the gameplay a mist covered the player while crouched which may be showing how hidden you currently are. Of course this is just a theory.

I would like the stealth system we have in the SPRPGs now, light/sound etc effect how visible you are and your chances of being seen, but hopefully the rogue-like class will have some form of camoflauge so that we don't look like idiots walking in broad daylight trying to ambush somebody.

Yea I'm also curious how it works maybe they show us a gameplay demo. I'd prefer stealth to be a timed ability (the more skill points invested, the more you can stay invisible) and also invisibility potions available to everyone because mages need to ambush too :hehe:

you will not see stealther until you either detect them or make something to break the stealth or the stealther does something to break the stealth.

its highly expected as all can stealth that you can detect the stealthers depending on perhaps perception skill vs the targets stealth skill? or something similiar.
also it is highly probable that you will see your side stealthers if you are in the same group/raid group.

i assume stealthing will not have any specific stealth graphics, the bent posture is prolly the one we will see, stealth classes might have something fluffier as graphics/effects for stealth.

I'm down, I would totally use that, first attract them with the smell and the promise of weed, once they come close, BAM! Stabbed in the throat, it's genius, really.
