So...how exactly can we defeat Alduin?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 7:49 am

A lot has been said about Alduin, his relationship to his Cyrodiilic counterpart Akatosh or Aldmer counterpart Auri-El. He has a hunger to swallow the world, but fortunately Dovahkiin is around to put him and his dragons/Jills back in their place.

But how exactly? Dragons can be brought down in conventional combat, but Alduin is a god, and likely the end boss of the Main Quest.

In Morrowind, we had to gather three MacGuffins - Wraithguard, Sunder and Keening - and face down Dagoth Ur both in single combat then destroy the Heart to end Second Numidium.

In Oblivion, we had to protect Martin until he could use his own MacGuffin - the Amulet of Kings - to summon the avatar of another god to banish Dagon back to Oblivion, while we stood there and watched.

Conventional combat against a god (and not one with stolen divinity) seems a bit...un-epic. What are the predictions for the final battle? Are there any artifacts in lore that could help defeat Alduin?

Well, here's what I think will happen

NOTE:This has some MAJOR spoilers about the Greybeards and the MQ

Spoiler
I feel that we will finally hunt down Alduin(We see him a few times in the game, Its confirmed we see him at the start at our execution,

we see him with Delphine(A blade) as hes reviving a dead dragon in a tomb. and we could possibly see him later in the game.

I'd imagine that when we track him down, we fight his avatar, then he is about to kill us and the leader of the Greybeards(A talking dragon who lives at the peak of The Throat of The World)

Swoops down and has a fight with Alduin and sacrifices himself to put Alduin in his place.

We're going to yell at him to stop.

Completely serious. There's no way the shouts aren't going to be part of it.

You get the fourth word of force push and send him flying into space....

Yeah I don't have a clue, definitely something to do with the shouts and the greybeards, seems you need to master the shout power before you stand any chance and the greys are integral to that training. Also don't the dragons fear the dragonborn because he can absorb them and use their power, it must be something to do with Alduin can only be killed (or banished since I don't think you can kill a god literally) by essentially his own power.

EDIT: Be awesome if there's some really powerful shout that can destroy him but it's very, very long, like a large paragraph. You can't kill him by physical harm, magic or normal shouts so the battle is just to wear him down so you have time to execute this powerful shout... so you got your buddy dragon scrapping with Alduin, perhaps some greybeards using shouts against him and buffing your buddy dragon while your standing on the highest point of high hrothgar doing this massive chant with all of Skyrim laid out before you. Alduin is desperately trying to claw his way up to stop you shouting, a massive storm is raging from the power of the shout while the factions army you help is fighting a group of jiil dragons and slowly losing... everything coming down to whether you can pull off this shout in time... sounds epic to the music I'm listening to right now :P

Easy we hoard a host of Cliffracers and thrown them at Alduin which will flee in terror.

The hard part is to shepherd the damn things.

The solution is simple yet epic: You get a dragon shout which forces all mudcrabs of tamriel under your command and together you stop Alduin... He will just drown under the giant army and suffocate.

We absorb his soul and explode from the massive amount of power, game over. Beth is lying about continuing past the MQ :shifty:

Spoiler

We fight Alduin at least twice. First time we bring him to 0 health but he doesn't die. We manage to do so using an ancient dragon shout called dragonrend, that forces a dragon into landing, along with the greybeard dragon helping us. I think the fight may be bugged though, as his meteor shout seemed very inaccurate and did little to no damage. No idea where we go from there though.

martin appears and one shot kills Alduin. Then leaves another statue for people to worship. The leader of whichever faction you supported then gives you some steel armor.
