How do I get into the gun runners compound?

Some SPOILERS here so, if you don't want to know then don't read.

How do I get into the gun runners compound without getting shot? I'd actually like to join them if I can because I went guns on my character lol. However I can't seem to get in the compound unless I lockpick their front gate. When I do that they shoot me on sight.

Is there a quest I need to do or some sort of prerequisite in order to get in contact with the gun runners? The only other person that I've come in contact with that has ANYTHING to do with the gun runners was a merchant at Camp McCarran by the name of Contreras. I got a note in my pipboy that told me he would give me a discount if I talked with a guy named isaac at the gun runners to increase his supplies. However the quest itself isn't in my quest log. It's some sort of side quest thing.

Either way, I cannot get into the compound. What do I have to do?

Pick the lock, and go inside. Bout as much interaction you can do with them as I've seen so far.

Alright so I snuck in, got caught and then blew everyone away and it didn't give me a bad rep with the gun runners, in fact it didn't give me any rep at all for them, also the place was a lot smaller than I thought and isaac wasn't even inside.

So /shrugs/ Looks like you are supposed to sneak in and waste everyone. Oh well. I think bethesda shoulda did a better job on this one, it was rather confusing considering they seemed to make their guns legitimately and didn't seem like evil characters. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouse after I leveled the place considering I went "good" on this character. Didn't really understand why I had to waste everyone but oh well, if I didn't get any bad rep then it doesn't bother me too much it just doesn't make that much sense lol.
