How to get started with the Hearthside add-on?

Post » Sat Sep 08, 2012 11:23 pm

So I eagerly downloaded the Hearthside add on, started the game and expected to see a new location on the map or get a new quest in the log explaining how to go about getting a deed to start building (at least that is what i gathered from the intro video)

To my dismay, none of those things happened... Am I missing something obvious?

How do I get a-building my new skyrim home??

You must mean Hearthfire and no you're not missing anything. That's why people should do a bit of research before buying things. Sorry to disappoint you but Hearthfire is focused around creating homes and you can only build in three pre-set locations. You can also adpot children, hire stewards to help you and bards to entertain you.

Only in the holds Falkreath, Hjaalmarch and The Pale can you build a house. Go to the cities in any of the three holds you're interested in building a home and you should receive a few letters from a courier. One letter tells you to stop by Honorhall Orphanage since it's under new management and you can adopt a child. Assuming you own Breezehome in Whiterun the next letter tells you that you can add on to the house and have rooms for future children. The last letter should be the one explaining what to do in order to get started on building a house. You don't have to be the Thane of the hold and you need to speak to the Jarl's steward to buy the plot. Once you purchase the land you can begin the building. Make sure to read the books on the workbench because building can quickly get overwhelming and easily confusing.

EDIT: Also, there's an entire sub-forum for Hearthfire discussions and assistance. Have a mod move your thread for you since creating an entire new thread for the same questions is against forum policy.
