How to join vampires?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:07 pm

I have seen thread after thread about joining the dawn guard and I already found my way to the place. But I do not want to accidently say "Where do I begin" and be a dawnguard member.

How do I become one of the vampire lords? Must I actually speak with the leader of the dawnguard to continue the quest into letting me join the vampires?

He'll send you to Dimhollow Cave to find "the Vampire Artifact or something", it's Serana.

When you awaken her, she'll tell you about her "home". Take her home and you get to talk to Lord Harkon, ruler of the Volkihar True Vampires. He gives you th eoption of becoming a True Vampire or being banished from the castle and forever viewed as prey.

Choose wisely.

This was my first issue. I spent 2hrs trying everything to bypass the Dawnguard and just report to the Vamps. It made absolutely no sense for a Stage 4 Vampire to even be able to step foot in the Fort, let alone join.

Sadly, you must actually join the DG and progress the questline until you meet with the Vampires.

This. I honestly didn't think Bethesda would stoop this low. Are the Dawnguard really that incompetent? And why would a vampire join the dawnguard? Unless it's some poorly written "undercover" excuse.

I still can't believe you have to join the dawnguard as a vampire. What's the sense in that? They couldn't be bothered to create two intro quests?

It's tentative. you don't actually have to join them. Just tell Isran that you'll "have to think about it". He won't be happy at all, but he'll still send you to Dimhollow which puts you onto the trail to joining the vamps.

Thats not what bothers me. What bothers me is that a vampire can waltz in there and consider joining without being attacked. You'd think they would, of all people, know you're a vampire. Why was it written this way? Why force us to even work for them? As a vampire? Or an evil character?

I think it just builds on the background story that the Dawnguard are initially clueless and so small a force that a vampire could waltz right in. Isran even says as much when you talk to him.

But I think that that's why it is written as such. Just to place the figures in the proper light for the beginning of the story.

Ugh....thank you for trying to rationalize it but that still doesn't make sense. Ther leader is supposed to be a seasoned vampire hunter....he should be able to spot one....this is just a plot hole, and only serves to make the dawnguard seem incompetant and weak. I was hoping for some cool good guys for a change, even if I'm killing them.

Yeah, I understand. So far this story in general seems cliché and lackluster. I heard that
Spoiler
the whole "blocking out the sun" thing is just a temperary spell. You shoot an arrow at the sun or something. So much for some real consequences for our choices.

Oh and also you can't customize the castles or even get a well rested bonus from them. So yeah, hopefully the quests can make up for this otherwise I'll have wasted $20.

It's not a waste. It actually adds quite a bit to the vanilla game.

IMO, it's definitely not a waste.

I guess not. I'm just sort of pessimistic so far after learning thos stuff. What else is added? Does the face-changer have new hairstyles and customization options? Can bretons finally get rid of those wrinkles on their foreheads? No matter what the complexion slider is on they still have wrinkles. Are there any new houses other than the castles you can't customize?

You get a well rested bonus for sleeping in the coffins.

It just buffs your vampire powers rather than increasing the rate of skill gain. Which makes perfect sense in a vampire castle. :D

It must be dawnguard that doesn't get the bonus then. It still svcks that you can't customize the houses at all....or...well the thing that was in my spoiler tag a few posts back really seems like a rip-off. I wanted some actual consequence for my actions for a change. For it to feel like the world is a bit different because of me. It just feels like the civil war, how the only real difference is different jarls and guards, but no one acts like anything is different and everyone's situation stays the same.
