how to keep yourself entertained during an Nuclear War

Post » Sat Sep 22, 2012 4:35 am

Just started *preppering* because i rather be safe then sorry...eh dont really believe anything is going to happen in my lifetime but im just looking for an excuse to do [censored] with my free time... also "we're fine" is probably what the romans said =P

anyways I have ordered some of that freeze dried food and im almost done making an underground Bunker at my uncle house so only thing missing in entertainment... anyone know some ways to keep entertain in a cold war bunker? like any games i can play or things i can bring to keep me entertain for about 2-6 months

probably going to share the bunker with 4 maybe 6 people... and i want to say it again, i dont think anything is going to happen i just needed something to do

Don't bother preparing, if anything happens you'll be dead anyway.

Go to a book store and buy all the books you can.

If you have electricity, just get a TV, DVD player, and go to the store and buy every single DVD you can find. Films, documentaries, shows, whatever. Get a console and buy all the games you can find as well.

This is an incredibly strange hobby to have. You do realise canned food expires? A few years from now you'll find yourself eating tin after tin of tuna.

As for games ... maybe avoid the Fallouts and any other post-apocalyptic titles. They would probably be considered in poor taste.

Bring paints and canvasses, paper and pencils, pens and such. If there was some sort of calamity that forced you into a bunker for 2-6 months you'd likely be very depressed, maybe there wasn't enough time to say goodbye to your friends or maybe you saw some people being killed on your way to the bunker. You'd need an outlet for your grief. Don't worry if you svck at drawing, you'd have plenty of time to get better.

This thread reminded me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5qqfsQGYus&feature=related, for whatever reason.

Nitpick grammar errors and such. Great fun that...

Snag a girl or two randomly before the 'day' comes and after about a week apologize profusely if nothing happens. At least nothing happens in regards to A Nuclear Winter. Hehe...

Jk do not do the last part. Unless you are man enough...

I'm treating this purely as a theoretical exercise, since if I survived a nuclear war I'd likely want to off myself anyway, but I'd take a few decks of cards and plenty of books. Also board games, if there were to be other people in the bunker, and plenty of paper and pens/pencils so I could write a masterpiece about my experiences surviving a nuclear war. I wouldn't be taking things that relied on electricity, because electricity isn't guaranteed in the nuclear apocalypse.

But... if he is in a bunker and has no electricity, won't it be pitch black?

That's what the books are for. Just remember to bring matches.

Unless you have a generator and plenty of fuel.

ha you remind me of a friend of mine who talks of the same thing, building a bunker for nuclear war. In a strong bunker you might survive the initial blasts but unless you make it radiation proof and airtight with a sustainable source of oxygen you won't survive the fallout and the inevitable nuclear winter that follows. Also i'm not sure of how many years it would take for the atmosphere to recover but you would probably need enough food, water and oxygen for at least 10 yrs....being entertained would be the least of your problems :P

Are we talking Falloutish nuclear war, or The Road nuclear war, because of it's the more realistic latter, I think I'm just going to off myself.

Is this for real? I mean is the OP really doing this?

Dude, just go pick a spot to watch the world burn.

But to answer your question, I'm just going to pick the nearest mushroom cloud and walk into it.

exactly. death is certain, either immediately or inevitably...i choose immediately being flash fried by a nuke, surviving the blasts would only lead to a slow agonizing death from starvation, suffocation, radiation sicknesses, etc. there's so many slow horrible ways to die that its better to just sit on your roof and watch the pretty fireworks. Also i'm pretty sure that we won't have any warning of such an event...countries won't announce "hey we're about to end the world by pushing buttons so we'll wait an hour for you to grab your friends and family and get to your bunkers". :P

matches and fuel burning generators will use up your most important resource, oxygen. I think people don't factor oxygen into such situations because we all take fresh air for granted. You would not only need to pressurize your bunker to make it airtight but you would need some sort of ventilation to remove all the carbon dioxide and other gases that you and your family would be expelling as that would quickly contaminate your air.

this is the problem, people play way too much fallout and watch too many movies...realistically it would be almost impossible to survive a worldwide nuclear war. At best you can survive the initial "war" but you would only temporarily delay the inevitable

Depends on where you live, really. No one's going to be targeting every single location on Earth.

Thanks to some info provided in another section of the forum I learned beer and soda doesn't become irradiated enough to kill people. So I will stock up on that and other drinks.

Get a lawn chair and count my ammo and wait for the radioactive mutants to come :tops:
