How to level up heavy armor skill ?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:12 am

I think that every thing is in the topic's subject.
I've started to play an orc with a two handed hammer and a full heavy armor set and sometimes i can see that my heavy armor skill increase but i don't understand how ?
Should I let monsters hit me more to increase this skill ? Or is it the longest I wear an heavy armor set the more i get point in it ?

By the way does the word perk means skill point ? I saw this word many times in the forum but i'm still not sure of it's meaning.

Ps: beg pardon to my english it isn't my mother tong.

The more you get hit while wearing heavy armor, the more your skill increases.

Wear all Heavy Armor, find something that doesnt hit hard at all like a skeever or mudcrab and stand there and take the hits. Ta Daa!

It will come in time.

The more you get hit the more your skill will level up so you could stand about for a couple of days while some little rats hit you.

You don't need to though.

Play the game and enjoy yourself and the skills will come.

Find a skeever or wolf, make sure that u only have heavy armor on, equip your restoration spells, grab a book or the game guide and have alot of patience... and really ALOT.

Armor skilling is broken imo, playing with S&B or Archer and you almost never see your armor rating going up. Should be an combination of getting hit and overtime just wearing it. Feels just wrong standing still letting people hit me for 30min just to get some skillups.

I agree, I feel like "running" around in armor would make you better at wearing it as well as taking damage.

They had the athletics skill for simply RUNNING in oblivion, why not instead of removing it all together, replace it with a factor that contributes to what you are wearing.

I would think of it kind of like breaking in a new pair of shoes. I don't need to throw rocks at my feet to get used to wearing them, I just need to walk around in them for a few days...

Mudcrabs taught me a good deal of what I know about Heavy Armor and Blocking. The trick is to find a weak one, they vary greatly in power, so if one is hitting to hard just kill it and kind a new mudcrab master trainer.

TBH that is the cheap/grind way of leveling the skill. I really recommend just playing the game and letting the skill go up as you use it. Dont stress about the numbers, just enjoy the experience.

actually, the more damage you take, the faster it will go up.

So, go find a giant or a mammoth and let it beat on you. Then run away or heal. It will let you level up a hell of a lot faster, as its not based on how many times you get hit.

You can purchase skill ups in Heavy Armor from Farkas at the Companions.

You are wearing your armour for purely decorative purposes.

Your weapon skill doesn't improve by simply wearing them.

I see where you're coming from but this is the trade off for sneaking.

If you feel that standing around and letting some safe little creature hit you just to up a skill you're not really relying on makes you feel a little silly there's probably a reason for this.

Especially when you don't have to. Even if you rely on Heavy Armour your skill will progress fine without the need for artificial boosting.

Get into fists fights with the "Fists of Fury" perk. Lets the other guy womp on you gaining the heavy armor XP then open up a can-o-whoopass (using the perk) to quickly win. It's hilarious doing this when playing a little Breton chick against those big hulking Nords.
