How many copies of TESO will be sold on the first day?

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 6:30 am

Okay, soothsayers-in-training. We all have an idea more or less how TESO will look and feel and play. Factor in Zenimax's expected advertising and promotions on the same or on a larger scale as for Skyrim's 11.11.11 launch.

So how many copies of TESO do you think will be sold during the first day? During the first week?

For frame of reference:
SWTOR had 1 million subscribers in the first three days.
GW2 sold more than 2 million copies during the first two weeks.
WoW WotLK expansion sold 2.8 million copies in the first 24 hours.
WoW Cataclysm sold 3.3 million copies in the first 24 hours.
WoW MoP sold 2.7 million copies in the first week.
(numbers mostly from Wikipedia, add numbers for other MMOs if you can find them)

You asking about PC only, or console too?

We got one new number today... 4 million beta signups.

On the one hand, some of those folks will decide it's not for them and not get it, or they can't afford to pay for it. On the OTHER hand, surely most players don't sign up for beta.

I think more than a million. I'mma go with three million in the first week, for PC/Mac. Maybe more in the first week on console, since afaik this will be the first big MMO for the new consoles.

Diablo III sold 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hrs so I am guess ESO will sell 4.5 million copies in the first 24 hrs. Everyone go out an buy 2 copies!!!!

4 million beta signups right now. And concidering lots of them are doubles, I would say 2.5 million. Then there are those that drop during beta, perhaps 2 million. And then because I'm a pessimist, I'm gonna draw another 0.5 million. So about 1.5 million on launch, I'd say.

probably about the same as diablo 3, there are still tons of ppl that didnt sign up for beta for whatever reason and others that are just now getting interested in mmos like the fresh crop of awkward kids that started middle school this year, so even accounting for the doubles in beta there will be enough new meat coming in from all types of areas

I would not be surprised if it broke 1 million in 24 hours.

I believe SWTOR is a much bigger IP than TES.

Getting 1m in 3 days like SWTOR will probably be considered quite successful as the initial box sell/preorder numbers is really just a sale based on the popularity of the IP. (Like D3's sales is based on Diablo IP with no relation to how good the actual game is.)

Keeping and growing the subscription numbers six months after launch will be the true benchmark of how good the game is.

Depends on the advertising, results after open-beta, this can vary the units sold from 500k on all platforms to 3m in a couple of days but it won't be under 500k for sure in the first day.

Because it's an MMO and having paid subscripton, many more players will come after a few months, after they make sure it's worth the buck and the game will speak for itself, not just from cherry-picked edited advertising.

Gonna say between 3-4 million the first week. About the same for consoles the first week as well.
