how many Hard Drives does your PC have?

Post » Sat Dec 21, 2013 10:13 pm

So, I just popped my Machine open to add another stick of RAM, only to notice I have a spare SATA port that is not being used..

So, I decided to go buy a 2TB HDD to add to my machine for extra storage..

and it made me wonder,

How many Hard Drives do you currently have in your machine?

Four, but altogether they don't add up to a TB. If I had one drive with a TB or more I'd probably only have two drives.

8 or more... Hopefully storage won't damage them magically

Two 1 TB drives, one for storage and one for backup. I'm running out of space, so when I build my next PC I'll be getting 3 or 4. 3 if I do RAID0 with a larger drive for a backup, 4 if I do RAID10.

Used to have a SSD for my OS, but it died. I'll definitely be getting one for my next system, because I loved how it performed. And it was one of the early generation SATA II consumer drives so a new one should be a noticeable improvement.

Two SSD . One 128 GB (Operating system), one 240 GB (Games + one 2 TB and one 3 TB HDD for storage and programs.

Also have one archaic external that mostly collects dust, but once in a while I find the need to hook it up.

Machine 1 (desktop):

1 x 240GB SSD for me OS, programs, and a few games

2 x 1TB HDD in RAID-1 for documents, data storage, etc.

1 x 1TB HDD for me page file and the rest of me games

so...that one has 4

Machine 2 (media server / HTPC):

1 x 180GB SSD for me OS and programs

1 x 1TB HDD for page file, timeshift buffer, documents, and games

4 x 2TB HDD in RAID-10 for lots of data and media storage

so...that one has 6

Machine 3 (media client / HTPC):

1 x 120GB SSD for OS and programs

1 x 320GB HDD for page file, timeshift buffer, and documents

just 2 in that one

Machine 4 (notebook):

1 x 500GB HDD for everything

I have two drives. One (500GB) with the pagefile, OS, and desktop software. The other (1TB) with games and media... all partitioned respectively in that order.

Three internal that are around 1.9 TB and one external that is 1 TB that I use for backups.

Looking now I'm gonna need another drive as I'm running out of room on my games drive.

I use a 500GB hdd for my games. It's only around half full and it doesn't even have a third of my total games installed on it. I just bought a 1 TB drive that is going to be getting more use and may replace my games hdd. I also utilize a 2TB external for various things.

Desktop:

3 x 1 TB internal
3 x 2 TB external (backups)

Mini-ITX server:

3 x 3 TB internal
1 x 2 TB internal.

All JBOD.

I also have a 2TB drive I need to put in my desktop to replace one of the 1TB drives that's planned for decommissioning.

Finally decided to get rid of the RAID5/6 configuration I see.
