No. You can fully build and furnish all 3 mansions for less than 100k. I found this a bit disappointing, as it means I still have an abundance of gold with nothing to spend it on. I liked the houses, I just expected them to require more resources to build and would take a lot longer. I was able to build the mansions in a few minutes each, furnishing them took longer, but the mats are all so cheap from stewards and blacksmith vendors.

Imagine the new players.

Not really. I've spent a little under $15k, and it's looking LOTS nicer than the Solitude home I have in my PS3 gamesave (I'm going to trade that copy in). So, it's a much more economical choice.

My only issue is lackluster "furnishing" when you drop all that $$ to your steward (I paid her $2.5k to furnish the alchemy lab, and all I got was a few wall shelves & the alchemy table, which is hardly $2.5k in materials, as the most expensive item was a single moonstone ingot). Now THAT will be a money sink: dropping coin to your steward who is using it for jack diddly squat.

I am enjoying putting all the time in, however. Makes it feel worthwhile, not just a shopping trip like it is with the vanilla homes.

The bard svcks, though. Another $1.5k wasted. The carriage, however, is REALLY worth it: you get free access to all the major cities, plus lots of the smaller stops.

20-30k with everything completed and lots left over. Iron mines are everywhere in whiterun hold and its only 1 ore per ingot but to be faster i bought everything cause i could, i had a bunch of money save after buying all the other houses and having nothing to spend it on, Thus i can give my kids 1k allowances

From scratch with only money, I've built all 3 houses, fully furnished, with a little over 150k spent. Could've gotten my money back by exchanging all my gems.

I am surprised on how much i did not spend... I wish that you could buy Furniture with your money. Well does save me for the next DLC i suppose.

Anyway, if you like Good views and Hate Bethesda houses like me, HEARTHFIRE is good for you

2 houses, 1 has a view of The lake, and one has Solitude. which is the other.

I have spent quit a bit on lumber, and iron. Since clay and quarry is free and unlimited, have not wasted money on it.

I hope they add onto this DLC and lets us customize our homes a bit more.

Since many of you have built you homes all the way, can anyone tell me why in Lakeview Manor down in the cellar by the ladder there is what looks like a potential door spot or to dig a tunnel? It's like they thought about digging a tunnel but stopped? Maybe I do not have the furnishing that goes there but I was hoping a secret room hidden by a false wardrobe...

I believe that is where the Coffin can be built if you have vampirism

My richest character has 150,000 gold, and only intends to build one house. So I guess he'll still be rich after he's done. But that's OK... rich is good. Rich is very good.

I wish there was an option to give some of my fortune to some charitable organization, though. Maybe Honorhall Orphanage, for the kids I don't get to adopt.

I overspent by a lil bit, but started at 500k, and I'm now at 350k. My speech skill had no points invested in it either. Iron was annoying to gather, and I always had an excess of wood, stone, and clay. If you mine it, or chop it yourself, you can save a lot of money, but I'm rich. I want to get rid of this money.

I have built and almost fully furnished all three houses, but no idea how much I spent on them, I was selling as I was buying, so Braggen still has around the 120,000 he started with.
