How Open is The Game?

I got the impression it's more Thief-like than TES-like, as regards the world. They seem to be focusing on providing variety within missions, rather than around missions. The only games I can think of that have done this to some extent are Thief and DE, so I'm excited. Hopefully they pull it off.
Arx Fatalis my good Oof, give it a try its on steam or GOG cheap, it was developed by the same people making Dishonored.
Its design was inspired by Ultima underworld which was made by the legendary Looking Glass Studios, the same people that made thief, Deus ex and system shock 1 & 2.

I've only vaguely heard of it before. It sounds like it might be my kind of thing. I'll probably give it a try when I have more time again. The only thing that might bother me is if it's all underground and the environments are too repetitive.

Yeah you would think that, but alas, NO! Everything in arx is mostly unique. everything. have faith, games in the LGS lineage are near perfect! only arguably flawed things in Arx are the difficult to master controls and the jumping is a little "off", but also fine once you get warmed up. thats about it.
Game has depth, in not just gameplay but other things too. see for yourself.

There's plenty to explore in each level, it just cannot be mistaken for an open world game.

From Wikipedia - "The game is presented in open world format as the player can roam The Isles as well as the distant Pandyssian Continent, though the primary setting for the game is the steampunk-esque city of Dunwall"

I take it this is false then. Silly Wikipedia.

Keeping this game on my radar. If they do something as open as AC2 in each hub, I'd be satisfied. Look forward to learning more to see if I will purchase or not. Look good and interesting sofar, though :)
