How to properly package and send a mod to a friend?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:48 pm

I'm working on a mod and I'm sending it to other people, for testing. Using the Create Archive feature, from the CK, looks very convenient but I read somewhere that there were bugs in the process. I also read somewhere about a procedure to eliminate the gray face bug and I'm not sure if those files are included automatically. I also see script source files in there, and I'm not sure if they're needed.

To limit the amount of things that might be causing whatever quirks it may have, I'd like to manually gather everything and send it all as loose files. For that, can anyone tell me (or point me to an article which mentions) what exactly I need to include, what I don't need to include, and any pitfalls I should be aware in doing it?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi Smig. I can't answer your question but I'd like to learn too. I'm learning where to put scripts and it's amazing what you can do.
Any info you can share and I'll be sure to do the same.

I am new to this as well, but for playtesting I have been making great use of the Steam Workshop. From the file menu right in the editor you can upload your plugin and people can easily grab it just by subscribing to your plugin on your workshop profile. Steam will download it and get it ready all for them. All you need to do is give them a link to the plugin page.

You'll need to package everything that either isn't an asset found in vanilla Skyrim or is a modified asset. So any custom scripts/audio/textures/meshes/etc. has to be included in the package.

Thank you nurgln. I didn't know that existed or what to do with it. It's scarey just starting out with a new package, but we have a nice forum with good people. :)
What are you working on, smig?
