How to see buffsdebuffsdiseases?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 11:13 pm

I must be mentally challenged since I dont see how I am supposed to keep track of my buffs and debuffs I get (curses, diseases, poisons etc). Have I missed some way to get them visible in the ui/hud??? Do I really have to pause the game and go inte the magic menu and look every 30 sec? Kinda counter-productive for immersion...

So far it seems you have to pause and check Active Effects, not sure why you would need to do it every 30 seconds though.

Annoyingly, you can only see them in the magic menu, under active effects.

Actually it's very good for immersion to not have blinking icons on the HUD at all times.

Go to magic menu, scroll down, select active effects.

Yup, active effects in the magic menu.

Until I read your post I hadn't realised that the effects weren't coming up in the top right with a count down timer thing. Guess they wanted to streamline the UI. I think there were a lot of complaints about it in Oblivion.

I was wondering this too. Maybe they can patch it in as a video option in the future. Personnaly I like those blinking things in my screen that reflect my current status :)

I play the Xbox copy, unfortunately.

Is that where you see diseases also? One alchemy clerk keeps saying I'm sick, when I know I'm not. I don't know if it's a bug or if it's the clerk trying to get me to buy more cure disease potions (if it's this then I'm actually kind of impressed).

One of my only complaints- sure, I like having a streamlined UI, but how the heck am I supposed to know I have a disease? You're SUPPOSED to have a UI that tells you these things.

I experience the same thing. The vendor continues to specifically mention a disease I had when I first met her (Ataxia), though, so I assume bug...

edit: And yes, that's where you see the diseases also.

This is perhaps a nod to realism, i.e., IRL you don't get warning icons that you have a disease. But the Magic Effects section is there for guidance (like vital signs).

The references to sickness indicate you may be in the incubation period of a latent disease, which is entirely possible after fighting seevers (ataxia), vampires (vampirism sanguinis), etc. always visit a Talos shrine (Winterun, other major hubs) after getting that comment.

I had the same problem...the only reason I knew I was sick was because someone said I looked sick. I searched in vain in all my menus and found nothing. Finally I gave up and just found a cure disease potion. This is a clear UI problem. If it's ok for the health meter to appear while you're regenerating health, then for chrissake at least let me know I'm sick before someone tells me I look sick.

I think it's intentional. She tells you she looks pale, but she's working in a shop that sells cure disease potions. Wonder what her motivation could be?

Not a fan of the minimal HUD design myself. I prefer to have as much information on screen as possible (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/648745380513638877?tab=public http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/648745380513621032/?tab=public).

It's a called a "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heads_up_display" for a reason :stare:
