How do I set a gif as my profile picture?

Post » Thu Mar 14, 2013 11:06 am

I see a few members with such avatars, and I want to do the same. If you think my avatar's creepy now, wait until it starts to move...

I've downloaded the gif, and it is in my 'download's file. But when I choose a picture from the settings, only actual pictures show up, not any gifs. The first time I tried to set the gif as my avatar, I only got a static picture. Now when I try to change it, the gif doesn't show up at all... :/

Any help would be appreciated :)

That's easy, but rather restrictive. It can't be bigger than 90 x 120 pixels, and no more than 100KB.

Hmm, it appears the gif's a bit too big. Can I make it smaller?

I tried 90x120 with the gif being 95kb, but it didn't work. I think it's restricted to 90x90 with it having to be less than 100kb.

So... can I resize it, or do I have to find another one?

You can either change the resolution to be a smaller size or you can turn down the FPS, though this makes it appear less fluid.

Either of these change can be accomplished in Gimp.

.gif is an image file. It normally is for animated images, but is used for still ones just because.

It was a joke, as his avatar is a gif.

Also they are used for still images because they have a very small file size (gif images only support up to 256 colors) and they also support transparencies.
