How severe must an injury be before you start to freak?

Post » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:06 pm

Having just chopped off a chunk of fingernail + a little bit of finger (not much, I think, but I've yet to check properly), I am inspired to enquire about people's tolerance of blood, etc.

So, what does it take before you start to worry? How much do you just shrug off? What will you simply ignore, and what has you heading straight for the emergency room?

Broken bones really. Cuts don't bother me at all.

I don't think I've ever freaked out over an injury, never had that kind of traumatic injury. I once faceplanted on concrete though while biking, I got a concussion, broken tooth, one of my teeth going through my lip and outside the skin + several cuts and bruises. I didn't freak out, but I was in some kind of shock. Don't even remember much from it.

I've fractured several bones through out my life, but I have yet to actually break a bone seriously. I think I'd panic if I saw my leg being broken, with parts of it dangling like jelly. :ermm:

Any injury I can see myself getting permanently damaged if it does not get treated properly. So any infected wounds or broken bones or just anything that I really need to have taken care of will freak me out a bit. As for injury that will just heal itself over time I tend to ignore those, no need to worry about them after all.

Well, I freaked out when I cracked my knee cap when I was in about 3rd grade, but that was mainly because I was so young. Now, I think I could handle mostly anything besides a bone breaking skin. Thats just disgusting. :yuck:

Mostly if it is a head injury, very bloody, or something that will leave me disfigured in some way.

I don't really get freaked out by any injury to myself, when I broke my leg in a motorcycle crash I was kind of desensitized which I think was my bodies way of coping with the physical pain. When someoine else gets hurt on the other hand I find it hard not to freak out a bit.

I once fell down from the stairs, faceplanting on the ground. The skin on my forehead basically ruptured and blood was flowing all over my face and everywhere. That was nasty. :ermm:

I've got a scar on my forehead, a constant reminder that I have to watch my steps.

If you see a robed man with a sythe pointing a finger at you, I'd say that's a good time to start panicing .

That reminds me of an injury I got when i was just in kindergarten. My brother was jumping from my mothers closet to her bed, doing it over and over. He kept trying to convince me to do it, finally I gave in and did. (Since I was young, I've usually been the voice of reason ) And as I predicted, it ended badly and I had to get 8 stitches in my head. Still have the scar.

I've had my rotator cuff ripped in half twice, an index finger cut halfway through, and stabbed in the knee with a screw driver (if it'd been an arrow I guess I'd be famous now). The finger injury put me in the ER immediately. My hand was more or less a crimson fountain that kept perfect time with my pulse. Most of the others required surgery. You don't have to feel like you're dying for there to be a need to go to the ER. Sometimes nerves get damaged and you can't tell just to what extent things are damaged, and then there's always the infection risk than can result in things far worse than your initial injury. Depending on what you were cut with, and the severity of the injury, you may want to see a doctor just to be on the safe side. Chances are they're going to want to give you a tetanus shot just to be on the safe side.

The worst thing that has happened to me was almost busting my chin open. It has a slightly irregular shape now.

So I honestly don't know when I would freak out, but I don't think any minor bone fractures would freak me out. If I broke a bone like it snapping, I would probably freak out.

Well I have never broken any bones or gotten any real injuries. I don't freak out at the sight of blood or anything but I think I would be. Bugging out if I did break something.

Mostly, I think of the lasting damage of an injury and not really the immediate damage. So, if I broke a bone and was left with a serious scar I would be pretty pissed.

If anything I freak out more for aesthetic damages rather than health related damages.

I'll cry like a little girl when I stub a toe but I won't freak. I freak when my intestines are falling out the gash across my belly.

I wasn't in much of a hurry to the hospital when I broke my leg or finger but I did sure as hell want the pain to stop.

anything where there's a lump where on shouldn't be. Something being out of place is no big deal, cuts are no problem, burns I can deal with. Breaks are my limit.

lol, that's the trifecta alright. During wrestling practice back in highschool, I was was headbutted right the forehead. It was hard enough for me to black out for like 4 or 5 seconds. I "woke up" kneeling on the mat with blood all over the floor. It definitely looked a lot worse than it was. It's a scar now, but you wouldn't notice it unless I pointed it out to you.

I have sprained my fingers a lot growing up. A couple of times they turned a really bad color. I've never broken anything in my life though, so I'm kind of fortunate in that regard.

If theres enough finger, you my need stitches, also depends on what you you cut it on anything rusty or dirty, get shots, i had the lid of a rubbish skip drop on the end of my finger, if it'd been a little further down i would have needed stitches, but i had bandages holding the tip of finger on while it healed.

Fingernails will grow back but keep an eye on it.

I would have to have a sizeable chunk of flesh missing or hanging off for me to hit freak level if it is self harm. I am trained and certified in First Aid, so I have half an idea as to what to do in such an event if it were to occur. I would probably have to see a person's arm ripped off right in front of me for me to hit freak zone if the damage is to someone else. I keep calm under almost any circumstance of that subject, so... :turned:

When it's too painful to pretend that it's not such a big deal, even if subconsciously I think it is.

Which may be the reason that I've never been to the hospital for an injury or illness before.

Shouldn't be any need for stitches, not that much taken off (from what I saw). I've done worse to myself and never needed any . I'm not worried about it.

If my head is sitting on the floor in front of me I'd probably freak out a bit...but I dont know, I've never really flipped out at an injury of mine, but when other people get hurt I get pretty worked up because I'll think they're in worse pain than they probably are :P

I don't know. But last time I went nuts, was because two of my fingers was almost cut off. Slamming doors are quite sharp, and blunt.

The large metal rubbish bins that are usually picked up with trucks with forks at the front, it was a large industrial one.
