How soon is too soon

Post » Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:09 pm

A day or two after that Aurora shooting took place, I made some comment about how maybe the murderer was some kind of raging hardcoe Batman Nerd who felt that the new movie was an abomination of everything his life stands for. Too soon, do you think?

Depends on the quality of the joke, how it's used and your audience.

My dad made a similar comment yesterday morning...but he was being totally serious. He then proceeded to say that someone needs to unleash a gun man at comic con.

..soo embarrassing.

Generally, you don't joke about people dying.

That was way too soon. Generally, wait a couple of months or you'll get really nasty looks for jokes like that.

I feel the same way. You should never joke about people's deaths, no matter how long it's been. Especially not victims of massacres et cetera.

People were already making tasteless jokes the day after the Norway massacre last year. Pathetic.

The anniversary for that is tomorrow by the way.
Going to your local memorial event?

Yeah I know.

I've got no plans as of yet to attend, I'm not sure. You?

Since I was a member of AUF, I could actually have been there that day. Glad I didn't go.

I'm going, it's gonna be a huge gathering at Den Bl? Steinen here in Bergen.
One of my classmates was supposed to go, but he couldn't due to some important things coming up. I'm very relieved my friend didn't have to go through that.

Once you've said the punch line it's time to shut up.

Everything can be funny provided it is told within a suitable context to a suitable audience.
